Never buy Motorola. Unending nightmare

This first part happened 1 month ago, i wasnt here at the time, so posting both parts in the same post.

Part 1:

So i bought the Moto G84 5 days after launch from an authorized Motorola offline store.

Never had a drop [in fact i havent dropped my phones ONCE since 2016]. Not even a scratch.

Here’s Proof : A.png

Anyway, i went to their service centre. They said that despite having no hardware issues, since this model hasnt show green lines elsewhere, its my burden to fix the display and bear the cost. Rs 6500+ labor.

So im just gonna have to accept their bs and pay because THEIR PHONE is having issues NOT caused by me?

Other brands like Oneplus and Vivo and Oppo replace screens for 3 years for free no less. Even out of warranty.

When i told them this calmly, they said then post a complaint. And told me to wait outside. I saw them smirking and laughing while prepping the document. Liek theey know nothigns gonna happen.

I will try to file a consumer grievance online [but my phone number isnt being verified for some reason so i cant seem to do that either]. But i have been a Moto fan since 2014. Between the OG Moto G, X Play, One Fusion plus and even 2 NEW phones just this year, i bought me and my parents about 15 Moto phones in 11 years. Plus other lenovo stuff like tabs and laptops.

So to save 6500 rs of price, they lost 3 loyal customers and about 20x times of that price in future sales to other brands.

Now i know to stick to LCD phones no matter how shit the phone is, and preferably from brands like Vivo which does do better.

In fact, this time is my 2nd time dealing with Moto support and they were just as shit back in 2016. Refused to replace a defective part despite being INSIDE warranty. But i sill bought more. My mistake. But no more.

Part 2:

Well first, India’s consumer forum is absolute shit itself. They just closed the case from their side after just hearing from Motorola.

At this point, i resigned to the fact that id need to use this for one more year at least before buying a new phone.

The very next week, Android 15 update dropped. And to my surprise, the green line issue fixed itself!!! I was happy!

For exactly 2 days.

3rd day post A15 update, the phone stopped taking charge. Even stopped recognizing a charger connecting at all. And the 1 percent time it did start taking charge, it was like 10% an hour. on either a 18W or a 33W charger.

Went to another service center.

They said they would fix it, it will take 3 days. And cost 1800+ rs. Well i agreed, if the charge issue is fixed, at least i can use it, since the green line was gone!

Next day the guy called, its fixed. Come and take it. I went, brought 2 of my chargers, and nothing. Neither charger is giving it charge.

Then he kept it for 5 more days. total over 7 days at that point. Tried again. Nothing.

They said they cant fix the product. I had to pay 200 rs for his work. waste of money.

Authorized Motorola service center in a MAJOR indian city told me its easier to and better to buy an new phone than to fix a charging port.

here’s the phone by the way: A — Postimages ZERO scratches, much less falls.

I decided to order a Vivo T4x, the home’s first ever non Motorola since we started using smartphones in 2014.

But wait, it didnt stop yet.

all this was till yesterday.
Today morning, the phone’s MICROPHONE stopped working and the green line came back, flickering on and off. And of course it charges like 10% of the time, that too very slow.

Like im so done with this garbage of a company. I have NEVER had ANY device, electronic or otherwise, that gave me this much trouble, despite me never mishandling it.

Never again, Motorola/Lenovo. May your Suits, engineers, factory workers all rot in hell

holy SHIT!!!

g84 ???

Been lucky never to have had an issue with any of mine or had a chance to experience service.

  1. Moto Nexus 6
  2. G62
  3. G64
  4. G84
  5. x2 Edge 50 Pro

This rabbit hole is getting deep. I thought POLED displays were safe and didn’t have the lightsaber issue.

I’m so lucky that I’m 38 and have learnt to read the signs, apart from reading actual feedback from users like you as well. Motorola has gone down to shit. My mother’s phone G32 doesn’t charge in one go. The phone has become extremely slow. The network is choppy. And the poor after sales feedback are all over internet. Also their insistence with curved display is another signal to loot you.

Motorola isn’t a brand which people should go for anymore. They have become extremely disloyal and indulged in bad practices.

For what it’s worth, when my S50 Ultra had screen issues (I dropped it, it had a protective cover and screen guard but screen started flickering), I took it to service center in Nehru place, they took it and returned the phone with new screen within 3 days. and i was covered in warranty and wasn’t a hassle.

Just to confirm, which city are you in? (See now that its Kolkata) and did you raise this to Motorola online? I’d have thought all these issues will be covered under warranty.

Update frequency horrible !!!

Thats the reason I always vouch for BBK phones-Oppo, Vivo, Realme, and OnePlus and xioami, except for the Chinese term you hate they are doing wonderfully as their customer base is great and they cannot afford to F* them.

Again the exp. will differ across customer base but majorly they offer good service compared to other brands.

Had only one moto in ma family used by my dad and it worked great before he upgraded. Rest we all are using bbk phone for a few years now. And these phones are very easier to fix tnhan their counterparts. You can even source the parts even in small towns,

What is BBK phone?

this reply is either pure genius or pure evil

This is one of the main reasons i am worried to switch phones now.
Have a Moto G 60 and a Moto fusion + going great from 3 and 4 years. Now battery is dying.
New battery cost from Motorola is 3k and warranty 1 month. So was thinking to upgrade to a 15k phone. But not getting anything interesting.

Liked Moto G 86 power, but again oled screen and reviews and quality of hardware and build of Motorola is no longer what it used to be earlier. Is making me wonder what to do.

If i had my way will continue with LCD and avoid Oled due to the issues that happen post fall , damage or software updates.

2 days back my friend’ moto phone stopped working ( I think fusion 50) exactly after 3 years from purchase date. The mobile was randomly shutting down and no cellular and wifi reception.

He gave it to the service centre and they suggested him to replace the motherboard with cost at 18k. He ended up buying a new phone.

Man I was thiking of getting G96 on BBD but scared now :frowning:

I think this is just a tactic for the companies to deny service. Apple also does this. They know it doesn’t make sense to spend that much on repair and customer will go away on their own.

I have had good experience getting phones repaired / screen replaced by local guy. Not every guy will be good, one was a thief ( likely just heated the chip and gave back), but some can be good. Instead of wasting money with bs prices/services, i just prefer this instead. Its also less travel/work for me.

Even 3rd party oled screens ( probably chinese), can be pretty good quality, good enough anyway. And cheap ( ~2k i think for my old m30s ). I have never had green link issue so far, but instead twice got pink stuff spreading over whole screen due to damage ( my own fault )
