No one can escape memory shortages,” says Samsung co-CEO

A Samsung co-CEO has warned that ongoing memory shortages could impact not just servers and PCs, but also TVs and home appliances.

The comment suggests the ripple effects of tight memory supply may spread across consumer electronics as well.

Samsung says the situation could affect multiple product categories, not just AI and data-center hardware.

He’s just stating the obvious.
ANYTHING with Memory (Short-Term RAM and Long-Term Storage) could become costlier in the future.
RAM and Storage have been abundant. This caused developers to forgo memory optimization. OS, Apps, Content, Games, and Software became bloated.
Consumers and Businesses casually dumped HDDs for SSDs, and everyone became comfortable with faster storage and RAM.
Hence, it is high time consumers clean up their storage and reduce their RAM requirements. Meanwhile, App developers will have to find ways of reducing RAM and storage requirements.

Koreans are flexing their muscles and now Samsung has full hold to control this for as long as they want to.

Hopefully China figures out its memory game soon :victory_hand:

very good point there. they are playing their games now.
Each country is showing its valuable exports and control it to get leverage and profit up.

Look at USA already controlling major exports of technology.
Look at China with Rare Earth material control and pressure building on world on that.

Now the Koreans want to show why they are important too.

Bangladesh too has strong commodity export in Garments and fabrics. So they also can have some impact on this world price…

India ..I dont know what we have to pressure the world. Maybe labours people building roads and bridges and metros for develop country.
Israel, Russia etc.

But anyways dont want to derail the thread.

I think because of the storage getting expensive …Microsoft took advantage and increased Onedrive cloud price to Rs 8300 in India .

Mechanical HDDs comeback?

I vote for the return of the WD Raptor. God I used to drool for one of those in ‘05.

People are so used to high speed data transfer now that mechanical hdd will not cut It out . Unless it is meant for one time long term storage.

I have observed that now windows itself is extremely slow without SSD.

In old era windows was fast with hdd. Both windows and softwares were well optimised.

It was very well optimised back then.

I remember, i had upgraded my 2013’s laptop running on legendary windows 7 with hdd to sata SSD (nvme wasn’t supported), and since both, optimization was great, drive speed got extremely great, it used to boot even before the windows boot animations 4 dots appear properly and complete the animation.

New windows definitely made with respect to current drive speeds and with hdds it will surely feel quite slower now.

It is guaranteed that each and every corner of the IT and TECH industry is gonna suffer.

NO DRAM, NO RAM, NO SSD, NO GPU, NO CACHE, NO CHIPS
And the counting just goes on and on, cuz every sort of storage media is kind of coming to an extinction.

And with our beloved “Only 3” manufacturers officially stating a “good bye” to the consumers
(“SAMSUNG SEMICONDUCTORS HEARD TO DENY SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS FROM PROVIDING RAM & SSD CHIPS FOR PHONE MANUFACTURING”)
should be enough to declare that we are doomed.

Time to go outside and touch some grass.

Also, pick up a PS2.

This information is partially correct since the news that got viral made it just too big. They didnt denied the supply at full level, rather it was about long term and short term deal. Samsung Electronics had asked for SC division for Long term fixed price supply but Samsung SC only stuck them with Short term quarterly contracts at high prices. A Sasmung representative also spoke about this after the news got viral.

However, even contracts flactuating within their own divisions is concerning as well :\
