OpenAI has reportedly accused Chinese AI firm DeepSeek of using distillation techniques to replicate capabilities of leading U.S. AI models, including OpenAI’s systems.
OpenAI sent a memo to U.S. lawmakers alleging that DeepSeek may have extracted model outputs and used them to train competing systems, potentially bypassing safeguards. OpenAI described the practice as an attempt to free ride on American AI technology.
