PSU mod...hooray!!!!!

it worked

converted my pile-of-crap Zebronics 400W into a better-than-powersafe PSU :open_mouth: not exactly…comparable to it…

I used to get 5.10V on 5V and 12.42V on my Powersafe 500W…

when i had hooked this for the first time, i got something like 4.75V and 12.9V :open_mouth: never used it again…

ALL VOLTAGES MEASURED THROUGH A DIGITAL MULTIMETER

Now i get 4.97V and 12.50V  thank you deejay  :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Replaced att that shit capacitors with new Rubycon ones

Added a high quality input filter and surge protector too…hehehe

It was all possible due to lots of helpful giudance from Deejay :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Here are a few pics

had to drill the PCB inorder to accomodate the extra 3.3V capacitor…(the one next to the black wires)

this is the total PSU..before ftting the lid…

this is how its running right now…hanging for its life..hehehe

I aint plugging the Powersafe 500W till i get my other mobo…this PSU is sooo quiet

Good job sunny. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

But do not give me undue credit. this has been done by you.

infact, as mentioned to you previously, i regret i could not send you detailed simple mods for the psu.
ah well, you can do that in phase II of the modding cycle after you burn in the new caps …hehe

well…thats okay…muhuhahaha..i want this PSU to outperform my Powersafe 500W :face_with_tongue:

BTW replaced 10v 2200u with Rubycon 16V 2200u on 3.3V and 10v 1000u on 5V with Rubycon 16V 2200u..is that okay deejay?? cudnt get 10V Rubycon ones…

Man Sunny, you are just too good !!!

Keep it up ! I had to rep you for this :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

congratulations!! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Congrats Sunny , gr8 going.

will get the PSU chromed today :open_mouth:

and a transparent window…

Do that on ur new Fortron psu.
No point in decorating a , in effect , 300 watt Generic psu.
unless:

  1. it is a value addition for future sale. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
  2. You want to get expirience. which may come handy for future mods. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
  3. you have spare acrylic sheets which you just wanna “use” somewhere.
imho, adding another 80mm fan (on the psu cover or like in ur existing powersafe 500W one, changing the main rectifying diodes, adding inductors (coils) on the output rails (i see it on only one rail currently), changing the timing capacitor of the microcontroller chip (next to the controlling ic) etc…will be more interesting and fruitful.

heh, sunny was getting bored.
He even wanted to run to maskys house and mod his zebronics 500W.Alert for mysore guys.
There is a sunny on loose. you are warned :face_with_tongue:

nice work sunny :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

will do…need ur guidance fast :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

soo much so that police have lined up outside the Mysore palace..!!! sunny on the lose u see.. and i am a prime target too.. me the sitting duck with a DFI thats the closest to him (geographically) :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

ROFL…
By the way just ban em from your house. Then entire south region will be in trouble :face_with_tongue:

lol…am now aiming for an Antec TP480 :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: evil2:

ahem.. not to mention the UV t00bs..

What happened to FSP??

One qusetion: Can two PSUs be used for a single system. I mean one powers the mobo and two hdds and the other can supply to two optical drives and gfx card. I have 2 hdds and 2 optical drives so nothing is left for connecting the graphics card. ( the manual for 6600 gt mentions that it reqiures four pin power connector)

I have one 300 watt Intex and another is some generic 300 watt which i h’d given for repair.

If it can than I will try.

Yes you can. But beware of the repaired PSU. The repairers genera;;y use low quality caps and you’ll face a lot of troubles later on.

am too lazy to write how to. here’s a link :face_with_tongue:

@Nikhil : Antec TP480 belongs to a friend of mine..me wanty to mod :face_with_tongue:

Yes u can use 2 PSUs. But normally, it would be better if u power up the core components (Mobo, CPU, GPU, primary HDD) from one PSU and the peripherals (FDD, Optical drives, secondary HDDs, fans, CCFLs et al) from another PSU. And which 6600GT do u have? a AGP one? I have a PCIe one and it doesnt require an additional power connector.

Ok its quite a complicated task. I thought of a plug and play type soln. :frowning:
