After tinkering with some prominent adblocking solutions (pihole → adguardhome , NextDNS → Rethink), I settled at Rethink DNS.
It is available on Google Playstore, Fdroid, and GitHub. Do not install from play store if you want to have local dns blocking.
You can add as many blocklists as you want (I use Hagezi pro, easylist) and download the file locally in the app itself.

I still use adguardhome (hosted) + ublock origin (librewolf) + portmaster (linux desktop). The more ads and trackers you block (locally), the better your device health (and peace of mind).
If you are too bothered to setup pihole or adguardhome, just use rethinkdns at least. Install it for your tech-illiterate friends and family and save them from ads and trackers too.
