Hey rishi, I bought this headset in March and posted the review a couple of days later. Maybe the prices have come down drastically after that. Haven’t checked.
But I must say that nearly six months down the line, I still think this particular addition to my PC simply rocks. I have been re-playing almost every game I own just for the amazing sound.
If you have an ASUS mobo, you can try fiddling with the Sound Effect Manager from the Control Panel. I can post a screenshot of my settings if you want. Seems to work perfectly for me.
Here you go. These settings seem to work for me perfectly. Only problem is that I have to run the Sound Effect Manager at Startup and change the setting to “Customized” manually. Havent found a way of getting this done automatically. If you figure out something, lemme know.
This explains exactly why the rear and center channels sound much weaker on my system, although why this is so is beyond me. Is anybody here using these speakers on a SoundBlaster Audigy or something similar?
Still haven’t got the most out of these headphones yet. had to do a lot of tweaking to come to the current state. After connecting the respective connectors to their sockets on the mobo, I opened volume panel from control panel. From properties selected Volume Control, Wave, Front, Rear, Side, Center, SubWoofer and deselected the rest.
Apart from the first two the remaining sliders appear greyed out BUT I can move the sliders up, down, left and right. (cant mute it) but only the front slider has any effect on the total volume. moving the rest dont “seem” to have any effect (or it may not be noticable). I have downloaded and installed the latest Realtek drivers. I would have posted a screenshot but cant attach it.
In CSS Sound test and Sound Effects Manager Audio test (i have selected 5.1 and 6Channel speakers respectively) , I can hear the front/rear left/right/subwoofer sounds, but in the game I cannot make out anyone coming from behind. In HL2 also I cant place where some of the sounds are coming from. Will install Doom3 and check.
Any inputs on this… I really doubt if there is such a lot of difference in volume between the front and rear mobo sockets like Zalman says…
I’m posting it here as it is related to these headphones. Mods can move it if it needs to be elsewhere.
Thanks.
PS: I’m actually bored of Sound effects Manager. Any other tool?
Jai , that was very well written . Anyone knows the price of the same headphones ?? and will it work well with my SoundBlaster 4.1 Live Value! sound card ? I just want to know .
yes its the same plug for center and subwoofer. I guess it plays all four speakers to create a center effect. similarly for subwoofer but with lower frequencies. at least that’s what i read on the zalman site.
but you do have individual sliders in the volume control.
is there any good application to test these settings (like a sound test in a game) where I can clearly hear all speakers at the right volume?
