Rugged perfomant external hard-drive for booting linux on lenovo legion laptop

I am looking at a 2TB E81 Sandisk because it says 2 meter drop protection and 2000MB/S. Its expensive but i cant compromise on speed/durability. I will be booting linux and serving customers building on this device. So, looking for feedback if this is a good choice?

There is no 100% failure proof hdd or ssd, always keep backup of important data in another drive. I am also not sure about reliability of running any OS over usb connection.

Much appreciate the response, thank you. I had the exact fear that the usb will wiggle and drop and break all the important work. After posting the above comment, I realized that this laptop has an additional free nvme slot (facepalm :)) So, i am now looking at buying another nvme and boot linux from there. I will be grateful to hear your opinion there as well : 4TB NVMe SSD for Lenovo Legion Pro Recommendations?

I will never even rely if even someone from haven comes up with 1km drop guarantee. Thats how fragile a disk is.

Storage prices have skyrocketed so choose the one in your budgets and dont fall those dicy bells and whitles.

Question for u

Why do wish to boot on an external drive?

Why not the internal ssd? Or add a second ssd if there’s an available slot?

yeah, this is the first laptop that i got had a slot that is free for adding an additional disk  It dint occur me until i have made this posted. I am now looking for an internal ssd

Yeah, because internal ssd would suit your needs much better, both for booting and reliability considering it would be much safer lying inside the laptop..
