Suggest a Lightweight Productivity Laptop under 125k with an upgrade path upto 32/64gb RAM, 2tb SSD, dedicated GPU for using After Effects

I already have a 5900XT + 3060 PC

Looking for something lightweight and portable. Under 1.7kg would be the sweet spot.
Something I can use to remote into the main machine using Anydesk. Screen should be good because of VFX work.
And if needed a good enough GPU to work locally.

Buying a 16 gig soldered RAM right now would not future proof. So I need something which can be upgraded down the line. SSD as well

Eyeing HP Omen Transcend 14, Asus TUF A14, ROG Zephyrus G14, but can’t find it in stock for the config I need.

Any other brands/models I’m overlooking?

Please suggest

I am also looking for.a.similar configuration though GPU is not my in the wish list . I found some good customizable Lenovo P series laptops having basic GPU also . There are some T series which u may want to take a look .

Why not ASUS ROG 2025 series ..you get 2 RAM slots + 2 SSD slots for future upgrade ? I think there is 14 inch as of today but 16 inch should be OK

Sad to say but there is nothing quite good on the windows side in this budget.

The whole point of a laptop is too have portability.

I recently realised this when i bought a Ultra 9 laptop recently..

The problem is u cant have portability with a powerful laptop unless it’s a macbook.

I shared my experiences in a thread recently.. everybody knows more or less Lenovo offers the most bang for buck laptops in India.

However the battery life on windows is so average.. you are more or less forced to stay plugged in 80% of the time.

The thermals are so bad that you can’t keep it anywhere else other than a flat table.. the fans will choke and laptop will get super hot.. even with the newer gen 2 intel Ultra series.

I realised this super quick after using my Lenovo laptop.. luckily it developed issues and I was able to get a credit note and get a macbook instead with the refund.

My M5 macbook pro has literal all day battery life, you can do anything and it won’t get hot.. it won’t have decreased performance because you are on battery.. speakers are the best i’ve heard on a laptop ever.. the display isn’t a oled but it’s probably the best one you can get after an oled.

I have experience on both ends in this pric bracket so if you have any queries, let me know.

I’m steering away from the “Gaming” laptops because of the weight.
I could get a sort of a “powerful” laptop under 70-80k for my usecase but it wouldnt work for me if I have to carry around 2.25-2kgs while traveling.

Why not a Macbook? The new M4 and the newest M5 are really good for video editing from what I’ve heard

Macbooks despite being a good product upfront has no upgrade path. Im looking for a Windows laptop.

I got my Lenovo Ideapad Pro 5i for 1.21L (incl extended premium support) during discounts. I think 1.3L MRP.

It has integrated Intel Arc graphics, which works solidly for me but not sure you’re okay with it. Otherwise, has great specs. 16 inch OLED screen. 2.8k resolution. 32G RAM. And it’s quite light.

It has even lower end variants at 80k IIRC. It’s been great VFM.

OK .. since you talked about ASUS Zephyrus & other gaming laptops I thought ROG may be OK with little bit more weight :slightly_smiling_face: .

Macbook is great as long as one don’t need 32GB RAM / 1 TB SSD .

I could buy an AIR M4 16 GB / 512 GB model for basic stuff but its not enough if I have to create several Anaconda environments / datasets .

My Thinkpad T14s thin and light Ultrabook has 8C|16T Ryzen 7, 32 gb ram, 1.2 kg magnesium chassis, touch screen, 6-8 hrs battery life. Coding monster in Fedora and surprisingly decent gaming in windows thanks to Vega 7 iGPU paired with 32 gb dual channel ram. Easily upgradable ssd that I upgraded to 1TB from 512GB and easily available battery.

I bought it used early this year for 27k from this bangalore based PC shop.

Before this I had bought an Intel X1 Yoga(highlight 4k screen) and an Intel X13 Yoga (Highlight - working sim slot) from other Business laptop resellers. and was on the lookout for 8 core amd thinkpads that are apparently rarer than unicorns. Still have those machines if someone is interested.
