Thinkpad battery by LaptopDoctor swollen in <2 months

I had purchased a battery from @LaptopDoctor for my T14s Thinkpad at their shop on Jan 20.

Ran really well for a month, then its life just fell drastically. It would often drop from 80% to 10%

Upon dissassembly, I noticed it was swollen on one side. Unfortunately at the shop the seller mentioned 6 months warranty listed on the sale receipt doesn’t cover swelling.

Not blaming anyone. Shit happens. Its always difficult to find OG battery for a 4 year old laptop even if its a thinkpad. Rs 3k down the drain. Hope this helps thinkpad owners who are looking for battery replacement.:+1:

This is just nonsense. What is the warranty for then?

You were sold a defective or poor quality item and the seller is refusing to honour the warranty. Don’t gaslight yourself into thinking this is just a “shit happens” situation.

I agree with things happening.

But not honoring warranty for the very reason that plagues most used batteries?

@LaptopDoctor

oh shi…I too was planning to purchase one from him. Your post is a lifesaver.

In my conversation with him, he had mentioned the same no warranty for swollen mess. I asked then what does warranty actually cover? He said any drop in capacity will be honored. Technically yours is seeing the same drop from 80 to 10 in a blink but swollen.

So after “no warranty after firmware updates” we now have “no warranty for swollen batteries”. Peak gaslighting. Just ban these fb resellers already. @LaptopDoctor was the supplier for @TechnologyHell in the SSD issues thread, tried to lie (“deny involvement”) that he didn’t know TH because he “didn’t want to be highlighted”. He has also apparently sent a lower quantity of thermal paste to a forum member (@akg7091 ) , and had a dispute.

I’d never buy from him, and at this point the platform should intervene.

A battery warranty that doesn’t cover “swelling” - what exactly does it cover ? I guess the warranty is for when your house burns down !
Stay silent, if you dare post any facts / feedback for this reseller some TE members will start fighting and abusing you while the mods watch silently. Abusing is allowed, maybe even preferred, on TE now.
Shit happened, now deal with it. But don’t dare raise it here please.

Utter non-sense and battery swelling in just a month is a joke! Even if the laptop was put on a continual charging for straight one month the swelling is unlikely to occur.

This should be replaced as it can be a bad batch or just one of those batteries like how we have a doa item or stuff which conks off within a few days all of a sudden.

Maybe the seller didnt do it on purpose but I do not find a reason here to not to honor warranty.

OP’s simps vs Reseller’s minions. You predicted the future lol. @theagilecoder sometimes the karma can be a boomerang!

Nevertheless lets wait for @LaptopDoctor and mods. Swell in battery in 2 months is unfortunate and even lapcare gives 6 months warranty.

Look, it’s very simple. The buyer got to use the battery for 2 months ( out of the 6 month warranty ). He got exactly 1/3 and that’s good worth for his money. Buyer got good value and this level of performance he can’t find at this price anywhere in the market. It’s very good worth for your money @theagilecoder
Members here just love making a rai ka pahad over such small issues. So what if the battery can catch fire and is unsafe. It’s still worth your money

100% this.

If i am a new member(which i am i guess xD) and see these type of issues, I would rather pay more to buy original product directly from store than buy from here.

Sellers like these costs forum’s reputation. It takes forever to build a good name and it takes just 1 incident to lose good name. So best way is to blacklist these type of people.

I am glad OP atleast noticed the swelling. Lithium fires are no joke. Once started it is near impossible to stop unless you have special equipment.
Which brand was the battery from ? I have had decent luck with lapcare ( till now :crossed_fingers:). Hope they keep making decent quality and value for money batteries. Dell charges an arm and a leg for a replacement battery that makes it not worth it to buy a genuine one

Meanwhile OP…..

anecdotal but I got my edge 30 fusion’s battery replaced by mobile doctor , a chain in Bangalore and it also got swollen, luckily I had a spare phone but I have been chasing these assholes for a refund for months now to no avail

Acute drop in capacity only happens when there is a runoff and swelling and well that isn’t covered.
It’s good that the device and user are safe.

Lol, these warranty terms are doctored to escape all accountability.

How do you not give a warranty on the most probable cause? It’s like a washing machine with warranty on everything except the tub.

Go through how the doctor replied to me in the thermal paste FS thread and you’ll understand the puns my friend
