Had a guy sell his 5-ish yrs old gskill royal 16gbx2 for 17k, delusions.
Time to list my ram ![]()
Washing my hands in flowing ganga
I always disliked how opportunistic people can get with regards to pricing their used components for fellow tech enthusiasts or daily folks. We’ve been seeing this with GPUs for a few years now, even used 3000 series doesn’t get negotiated to a reasonable price, Occasional price revision to storage drives are often common, based on slightest storage price trends; now with DRAM shortages, this is only going to get amplified. I firmly believe everyone should have the right to fair used prices independent from influence from status quo which is beyond the control of any individual. It is the moral responsibility of non-enterprise (mostly well off) members in the community to safeguard fellow (not so well off) enthusiasts and respect their socioeconomic concerns in relation to a tool that they’ll essentially use everyday to better their quality of life (a desktop computer).
I urge non-enterprise RAM listers on this platform to maintain the moral decency of listing the USED product in relation to what they purchased it as and not base it on the global, ever so brittle, trends.
And before someone advocates against my POV in favor of pragmatic realism, no I wouldn’t think of increasing the asking value of components I own based on some totally senseless trend aka I won’t be that petty to rip-off anyone. Thereby, as @tooknox said, do not submit, be patient.
Unless you really-really need the RAM now I would suggest you wait. Prices are gonna correct soon. It should come back to normal by Financial Year or during that time (at least if it’s not intentionally being inflated)
What would be a good price for used 8gb ddr5 5600mgz soddim ram ?
There are folks who have paid 40k for gpu which are now selling for 12 14 k. If seller has to sell at lower prices. Why can’t they sell at higher prices ?
Don’t give me " no one forced you to sell at lower rates"
This forum was designed with the intention of collaboration, synergy, and co-operation.
It should not turn into a Dirty Marketplace, where getting the “Highest Price” is the top-most priority or the only goal.
RAM prices have been insane. No doubt about it. If you can avoid purchasing or putting off for later, do it.
DO NOT PANIC BUY.
In the same way, Sellers, please do not Price your USED products at predatory pricing.
As with EVERY Older Electronics Components and Products, prices will correct eventually.
RAM prices have traditionally Yo-Yo’ed to extreme levels. This is certainly not a good time. Live with your 8GB or 16GB stick for some time.
It’s strange with DDR4, this isn’t limited availability due to high demand, this is no availability due to no production.
What we have is what we have. There won’t be anymore made. Production has ended.
It’s not like what happened with GPUs during the mining craze, there were always more GPUs being produced.
I watched the video, it’s going to get a lot worse, prices are already crossing $500 for 64gb kits. In times of scarcity, there’s more factors at play.
If I sell my sticks, there’s no reasonable way I can repurchase them ever again in the next few years.
Normally I’d say it’s time to upgrade to DDR5 but that’s not going to feasible with the AI bubble we’re in.
If ddr4 production has ceased, how will cos honour warranty?
That’s a million dollar question! Someone RMA’ed regular G.Skill Neo a couple of years ago and they received the faux gemstone faux gold version instead and I bought it from them (and forgot where I put it):
Either they’re going to get stringent with the RMA process or upgrade/downgrade with compensation/payment as we saw with GPUs.
No deal:
That was a year after covid and it’s not even a particularly desirable stick.
I can’t wait as my pc is in dire need for an upgrade. It keep crashing due to low memory and even my 1650s is giving out with “out of video memory, lower your resolution”. I was thinking of buying another ram stick with the same model but looking that the current situation I’m better of getting 32gb kit and he secure. I was also thinking of getting a used gpu from here but can’t really get rid of my current one as I’m too broke
, so ram it is.
I sold off my 32gigs (16x2) 3200mhz DDR4 for 5k just a few days ago, I think. Prices were already shooting up at that time. I got a buyer before I could change my mind and I honoured it, but also saw a couple of sellers delisting or changing their prices around the same time. It is what it is.
At the same time, I don’t think any of those sellers did anything wrong. Electronics always depreciate in value while appreciation is once in a blue-moon event. Buyers low-ball old stuff all the time, no one preaches to them just that because new launches happened, old stuff shouldn’t be valued at 50-60-70% off its original value. Or that low-balling has to have a limit.
I myself am guilty of low-balling when buying, it is something most of us have learned to do as most sellers and buyers assume there is a room for bargaining, and no one actually lists the real price. There could be exceptions to this rule, but this is what my observations are.
When buyers want to get the best deal for their money (lowest price possible), we don’t shame them. We all want to get that crazy deal. So why do we shame sellers when they also want the best deal for their stuff (highest price possible)?
The trick is to talk to the other party and find a balance. If you can’t work out a deal, who cares? Just move on. There are other buyers and sellers. But if you are going to preach ethics or morality to others because they are not giving you the deal you want, the problem is with you.
Too late ![]()
I need to RMA TridentZ 8x2 as its leds are not working. With RAM shortage , could RMA be a problem ?
I thank you everytime I see 64GB’s in Task Manager ![]()
Me after selling 32gb at normal prices ![]()
Not your problem.
Sourcing an equivalent or better stick is the company’s problem
