Water Softener to prevent hairfall

Already have RO for drinking water but sees like i am getting hair itching (have very very short hair currently) and hairfall problems due to water, could be some stress too.

i don’t know. do we have some affordable option so i can use to soft the water?

trying to edit the post and getting marketplace error. @Renegade

You can get tap or shower based water softner. They are relatively very cheap and provide decent performance but on the cost of pressure.

Also you can get the water the water tested through government lab. They give a detailed report about the composition of the water. Then based on the composition you can design solution for it.

i can just put a bucket for that while i clean the cloths, so not a major issue.

In that case you can go for it. I have personally used it when I use to stay in hostel.

This is my observation over the years… all the men who have gone bald have taken head batha every day. This, in my opinion, is the primary reason. Constant washing removes all essential oils from the scalp and prevents it from coming back. Though this makes you feel “clean”, it is not good for the hair. Twice is week is the max frequency that I can recommend for washing your hair in order to keep hair fall in check. This will solve 60-70% of your problem.

Aside from this Biotin(Vitamin B7) is essential for hair and nails. Get a simple blood test done to get your levels checked for all the minerals and B-vitamins. Though, blood test doesn’t give you the most accurate results, it’ll give you a fair idea of your levels. For more accurate levels, you get what’s called a Hair tissue mineral analysis done, but only some beauty clinics like vlcc and lalpath labs seem to offer this and not all diagnostic centers. You send a sample of your hair and they do the mineral analysis on it. This gives your your average levels over the last few months since the hair started growing. It reflects the amounts of minerals stored in the tissue (since hair is also a tissue).

Do not take multi-vitamins as many of the vitamins compete with each other for absorption and functioning even though they might require each other for activation. So, consult a nutritionist/doctor to get the right dosage and schedule of supplements to take.

This adds another 20%.

Water softener as suggested can add to the last 10%. There are many companies that have shower attachments that can soften the water, but none of them have any indication as to when the compound inside has run out and stopped softening, so safety’s sake, you replace the cartridge every 3 months or so. The main line level softener is what I would prefer as it helps keep all the pipes from scaling up and also helps with washing clothes etc.

Also not using shampoo can help your hair long term. There’s a whole sub-reddit around this @ r/NoPoo (yes it sounds like its a sub for constipated redditors)

As said above, hair fall due to hard water is very low probability.

The biggest reason for all hair woes is gut dysfunction/dysbiosis and stress/sleep. Fix your gut health –> fix your hair skin and nails. Then, less stress + more early deep sleep = high growth hormone secretion which helps in better healing regeneration etc of everything including hair skin and nails.

We use to have heavy Iron in our tap water.

And that resulted in very heavy loss of hair .
Also stress is a another major factor and your lifestyle.

I tried various method in life to help grow my hair.
But most effective was when I applied some methi dena + curd and some other ingredients.

Watching some youtube video many years ago.

It didn’t help in growth but definitely made whatever hair left thicker and stronger.

Later I left it that .
I will try to find that video for you and share. It was almost a decade ago iirc.

I do think coconut oil is nice to apply.

I also apply this herb thing with coconut oil. They are easily available in Kerala.

( It is pretty good actually. No it does regrowth hair atleast not with me but does makes hair feel little thicker).

I do plan to do hair transplant in near future.
Some friends and relatives have done and the results are pretty good.

My mom bought water softener, to be added to a bucket of bath water. I calculated the price : it is far cheaper to just use RO water for hair wash. This is even in Bangalore, where water is more expensive than in many other places. But the calculation assumes that one already have RO at home.

Though she might have bought an expensive softener. Some “well wisher” sold at MRP, so could easily be a scam.

I am just embracing it.

A life-changing episode and I was staring down the barrel. Everything else followed along with hair loss, a receding hairline and a bulging waistline. A few years later and a freak accident put me in bed for three months and I never recovered fully.

Do I miss my good hair days? Yes! But, that’s life now. I see 60-70 somethings or alcoholics with a head full of hair and then I see teens with salt and pepper or thinning and loss. It’s worse for the newer generations with the lifestyles we have chosen or adapted.

No hair oil, adivasi hair oil or rosemary is going to help. Do not waste your money on those vitamin gummies either.

Iron filters are available to remove it. Didn’t realise it had anything to do with hairfall. But it would stain your clothes and sinks.

Must be hereditary or some other problems
