Anyone faced this ?

Yes! I had this issue for a few months and one fine day the validation was done. No text message or call in different devices. Unfortunately, there’s nothing you can do now. Do not waste your time with WhatsApp support.
Damn. That is pathetic. My mom uses Whatsapp extensively and now this. I exchanged the old phone for the new, so impossible to get it back. If I had known that I would run into an issue like this, I would have never gifted her a new phone.
PS : I took the WhatsApp backup in the old phone. Any option of linking the old account to a new number or something ?
I know this is extremely unhelpful but as someone who has lost a bunch of chats a bunch of times due to stupid WhatsApp migration issues, you’ll be fine after a few days. What I missed more than the chats were the stickers and GIFs I had built up over time.
Hope you find a solution to your problem, WhatsApp has made the process unnecessarily difficult and fragile.
Maybe it’s due to the new gov/TRAI SIM binding rules implementation process.
Following this thread for updates. I don’t use Whatsapp, but have a lot of people using this. It really helps me to understand what is going on.
Update : So today morning after yet another factory reset and WhatsApp install, it worked! Mom spent a sleepless night but she was happy in the morning !!
yeah they have a weird thing going on. Its actually easy if you keep earlier instance activated. The code is sent via the whatsapp app. This trips people up when they wipe the phone after backup thinking they’ll get a text. The send a text option just doesnt send a text for some reason.
It sends it 12-24h later when you try.
Many people globally are facing many issues with whatsapp dramas off-late I think the day isn’t far when the masses might permanently give up whatsapp and shift to alternatives.
That is still months away not to mention it has no relation with the case here (sim is there it just changed phones).
So
If you hard reset same device, there are rare chances you will get stuck in validation or delay in SMS received ?
If you change the device and wipe off data from previous device, it will be difficult to get SMS asap.. ?
Any concrete answer here ? Can help others getting stuck..
Specially for some aged family members for whom whatsapp has became one more requirement..
So if you are transferring data the most fool proof way is - backup on original device. Dont wipe it yet. Set up whatspp on the new device. The code will be sent in-app on the original device.
If you wipe the original device without activating on the new one - chances of not being able to activate immediately is really high. You can however activate say 12 hrs from then etc. 6 maybe.
By the way, switching from the OnePlus 5 and S7 Edge to the S23 went smoothly, but that was back in 2023 ![]()
