Check the Fan on your HSF, it might have worn out , so must be spinning really slow making a lot of noise.
Check the airflow in your cabinet a front intake and a rear exhaust fan is enough to keep your GFX’s temps ~ 55C idle(max.).
Post a pic of your HSF here, XFX gave 2 type of HSF models
a)
b)
If it’s the first one, remove the metal plate and keep it removed.
If it’s the second one, there might be a problem with the fan(most probably) or airflow.
In both cases remove the HSF, clean the HSF and reapply TIM.
Local ceramic white-TIM should do the job for such a small GFX Card.
Reattach the HSF and tighten the screws appropriately w/o over-tightening.
Now run the config with side panel open, ideally temps should be around 48C-55C(idle), if temps still dont fall, there’s a serious fault with your GFX card. Send it for RMA though I seriously doubt it may still be under warranty.
My 8600GT idles @ 50C and under load does not go beyond 71C. Now compare this to your result. There’s something wrong with your GFX card , check the capacitors and Voltage regulating ICs. Remove the brand plate"XFX 8600GT" from the HSF ,and check if the fan is rotating properly?
@ challapradyumna your 8400GS is also overheating.
Idle temps > 65C will cause your GFX Card to fail sooner or later.
Mine giving 55-60 idle and at gaming mostly 65-75 but when i run NFS-The Run/ Battlefield 3 (Frostbite 2 Engine) it can’t RUN (Crashed due to overtempt about 90-100)..:ashamed:
Ok…installed the card again…and temps are 65C idle and 100C on load…lower than before…
I waited for about an hour to let the paste dry before using the card…is it ok?
Also I have increased fan speed to 100%(in both “System Tweaks” and “Low-level System Tweaks”) in RivaTuner but it goes down to 30% suddenly/randomly after sometime…:
Here is the new graph:

Idle and Load temperatures are way beyond normal. If this goes for some time, your card will die for sure. Anyway, no point in buying a new heatsink for 8600Gt..
Try this method :
Get Arctic Tx4 compound / Antec Formula 6 Compound from your Friend / store.
Apply a think layer on Heatsink with a plastic spreader
Remove the 8600Gt fan
Buy a new 80mm fan and tie it over your card with the help of plastic thread or anything so that it doesn’t vibrate.
Attach the fan molex pins with PSU.
monitor the temp.. I’m sure you’ll get better temperature than present.. If possible 50C Idle - 75-80C Load. this is acceptable than your present temp.
