WTB 1-4TB SSD

My 980 pro is almost dead so looking for a boot drive. Needs to be in warranty

How did that happen? Did you reach the TBW limit?
I think it was the firmware bug. I updated the firmware but according to reports the damage done prior to the update is permanent. Its acting up these days pc randomly crashing and stuff. Magician smart test also concluded that its corrupt.

so better not to update samsung drives? i updated recently my 990pro also.after reading this i wont update anymore

No, the original firmware that came with the drive was causing the issue. Samsung released a firmware update that fixed it but any damage done prior to updating is permanent :(
 
Currently samsung SSD recent models like 980 pro/990 pro/870 evo are having issues with poor firmware so it is recommended to update firmware as soon as after buying & before start using it normally.
Didn't know about this but I have been using 980 pro since about more than a year now with no issues.. yes i updated the firmware the very day i installed the SSD so maybe that helped!
