My 2-3 months old WD15EADS is almost dead. The extended and short failed. :( Its still running, but takes sometime to read files. Hope I will be able to recover most of the data in it (About 500GB) :(

So till now out of the 3 WD HDD's I bought all 3 had issues and needed to be RMA'd. My 4 year old Seagate is still running without any issues.

Same here.... 2 of my WD EARS failed in a week...I had 2 more EARS which are running fine but I am not taking any risks and have started to take backups (yes backing up my 1.5TB hard drives!!!!!)

I have 4 seagate 1.5TB bought before more than a yr..all are running awesomely fine and without issues...:)

I also had a WD 640AAKS which ran amazingly:)

My 1.5tb WD a month ago stopped getting detected i switched to another sataport. Now
sometimes my HDD is very slow when restarted its again fast.
For eg if i am copying an file it copies at the speed of less than 1mb,after restart the same file will be copied at the speed of 30mb.
One month ago bfore the drive stopped getting detected i had deleted an random named folder eg ABSBKABKJDB(folder name)Is it a coincidence that deletion of the folder may have cause the problem???????

The below looks like a OS and memory problem rather than a HDD issue.

Also, the hard drive not getting detected could be due to poor PSU or malfunction in the mobo's sata port. Try switching the port and what SMPS do u have

^^So, you were planning to get a 500GB not because you needed the space :P? For most of us, higher capacity drives are bought because we need the space.

Btw, I've had 2 320GB Seagates RMAed by a friend sometime back. So is there any definite connection between size and data failure? Or is just luck and/ or overall decline in manufacturers quality control?

Same here...Not sure why anyone would buy a higher capacity drive when he does not have any space constraints:)
The minimum size of my internal drives is 1.5Tb...I have all sata ports occupied..so much that I have made my sata-DVD writer run as USB dvd writer because of the lack of Sata ports:)
had to order extyernal drives and casings to accomodate the data flow:)...all because I stopped taking backup in dvds from the last 6 months:)

I got a WD 320GB because my 3+ years old Seagate 200GB died. I wasn't in need of any extra space since I don't hoard stuff.
