as the title suggests looking to buy a 10k rpm sata hdd, what r the available options here in indian market.

suggestions please and also what r the capacities and their corresponding prices.

TIA

Look at a low capacity SSD instead of a 10k rpm HDD as your boot drive. Browse newegg, take your pick, shoot off a PM to KMD. :)

as far i know.. Western Digital Velociraptors .

They come in 150 GB and 300 GB sizes.

10K for 150 GB..

16K for 300 Gb

tese are approx prices.. give for take 500-800 rs...

cheers

Time isn't ripe for SSDs as yet. Moreover a decent low capacity SSD costs a bomb! Velociraptors might still be worth the investment. IMO.

Well actually, if you check the prices and compare them to 10k drives, they might even turn out cheaper(the small ones)
Plus, they are small, light, use very little power, and have no moving parts(no vibration).

of the system :hap2:

Did you bother looking for em before deciding that they were not available?

Quite a few online stores stock them. They'll definitely be available through the hardware market of your city.

Not sure but I think locally someone said SSD costed around 24k at ritchie street and if its at that price you might as well get a pair of raptors

I picked up a G-skill 64Gb MLC SSD through Katmandude for Rs. 6400 a few weeks ago. It's really snappy under Windows 7, but I'd still say that it's work in progress until they come out with better controllers and optimizations, not to mention lower prices.

I have a 300Gb Velociraptor running XP for more than six months and it's fast and reliable. And a better bargain now that prices have come down by almost a third since it was released. I'd recommend it over a SSD.

Lol that's exactly a reason I'd stay away from a SSD now. Until it becomes mainstream and users actually opt it over the raptors/velociraptors, I wouldn't touch it with a 10ft pole. :P

SLC SSDs>>>MLC SSDs and yeah they cost twice/thrice as much.

Thanx for the inputs tvarad. :)
