I have an old PC, AMD Athlon 64 3200+ assembled on ASUS A8NE and I affectionately call this the 'Temperamental Boneshaker', why? because it makes a lot of noise lately and vibrates.

Its running with the stock heatsink fan and the fan has become unbearably loud, I have planned to replace the stock 70mm fan (only) and put a quiter 120mm on the stock heatsink.

I want you experts to answer these questions and help me out,

1) Where in India (Bangalore) can I buy a 70mm to 120mm fan adapter? something like this Performance-PCs.com, ... sleeve it and they will come
Aerodynamic Fan Adapter 70mm to 120mm - UV Sensitive Blue Products Model: DUCT70120-UVB [DUCT70120-UVB] : Performance-PCs.com, ... sleeve it and they will come

2) Please suggest a reasonably priced 120mm fan something like CoolerMaster with 3pin connector to go into the CPU fan plug on MoBo.
(dont want anything costlier as this is an old system)

3) Will the 120mm fan get sufficient juice from the CPU fan plug?

4) Will the BIOS/CPU accept this fan since it spins at lower rpm.?

5) The chipset fan is also very noisy, as this has been an age old problem with ASUS boards, hence I am planning to go with passive cooling and want to know where I can buy this Zalman Heatsink ::: Zalman, leading the world of Quiet Computing Solutions :::

Please help me with these and thanks in advance,:)

I would suggest rather than buying passive heatsink for the aging mobo, get a new one :P

And for the proccy if u wanna keep the mobo, just get a new cooler and that should be cheaper and readily available locally :)

@ clown_abhi

I am on the verge of buying an i7 920 but holding on for the 930 to release sometime in March.

Also there is no point in discarding this system, as it is sufficient and powerful enough for daily needs. Once I get the new PC this one moves on to be the family PC and I want it to be as QUIET as possible.

Stock cooler has been loud since day one and has become unbearable lately.

Alrite then get a cheap aftermarket cooler with a 90mm fan for ~500 bucks of CM or likes.

Don't go for a 120mm fan and then fixing it and so much hassles.

Just get a 500 bucks aftermarket cooler which would be quiet and efficient.

Your idea sounds logical, considering the cost of the fan and the adapter which would come upto ~500.
Can you please suggest a few of these coolers...:)

U can get one of these Igloo ones whichever suites ur budget and performance will be same as stock cooler, though might be a little quieter.

I would suggest you go to the local market and check out some Cooler Master ones which you can find for around 600 bucks which are very good for the price.

Use a Double side Adhesive tape, Make urself a Wire bracket.....there are tons of ways to mount the fan only limited by ur imagination;)

try lubricating the old fan..

you can do this by removing the fan & you'll find a sticker on the back side of the fan, remove it & you'll find a small hole in the middle of it..

put 2-3 drops of automotive oil in it & then try running it..

it might help you reduce the noise...

just give it a shot.

@ clown_abhi

I did check the GlacialTech Igloo coolers as suggested by you, prices start from Rs.170 and they are the exact same stock coolers that we get with the CPU and have copper base too, I am keeping it as the second option, as I am planning to mount the 120mm fan using a custom mount on the heatsink. This is just to make it super quiet;)

@ Gowt1ham

Thanks I am thinking the same too.
Now all I need is a 120mm fan with 3pin connector.

@ naveen58

Cool, I give it a shot first!
Also Guys suggest a 120mm fan with 3pin that can be connected to the CPU fan plug.

@dreamCatcher

95% of 120 mm fans available in market has 3 pin connector, and can be connected to CPU fan socket.

There are many being sold in TE market too.....

even I have one rosewill 120mm red led fan for sale in market :D
