madnav

Forerunner
Well i almost decided to go for Galaxy S or Desire until i stumbled upon Dell XCD35.. impressive specs at 17k.. a real comparative fone for wave.

but then i came across OlivePad...

OlivePad VT-100, Olive Pad Specs, Olive Pad Specifications, Tech Specs

official site says 3G and 800x400 :( although their press release and all other online sources say 3.5G and 800x480..

very temptibng buy at 22k and that too comes with Froyo..

600Mhz Qualcom shouldnt be an issue.

I want to go with Dell xcd35 as i would like to save mulaah. but not sure if dell will release froyo for the same :(

How is Olive as a brand and its aftersales in india?

also considering Viewsonic GTab

http://www.viewsonic.com/gtablet/spec.htm

dunno how much it costs.

The Tab will not be used as a fone if i buy a tab, i will be using crappy fone for calling purpose in that case. so dimension are not issue.. ergonomics, aftersales and build quality are important for me.

share your inputs.

PS: Size matters :P

Go for the samsung Vibrant (Galaxy -S ) instead. The one below is retailing for Rs.19.8K

Global Easy Buy

I bought the same phone and its awesome. Unlocking it is a joke and can be done just by downloading an app from the android market. Be warned though , the phone comes with a US warranty only . I bought mine from the same seller and i'm loving it. No issues so far. See if you can score some GEB 10% off coupons which will further reduce the price.

Wow.... that's a great deal.... go for it madnav

The build quality of the Olive is worst at best.....

As for the Dell XCD35, it is overpriced. All Dell phones are overpriced as Dell is offering the Replacement warranty..... :@

I think u should get the Vibrant above. But do PM raymasky & make sure that it is unlockable & that u would be able to do it. Else, u'll be stuck with a 19k paperweight!!! :P

@ raymasky

What is the drawback of using vibrant against i9000? I mean, does the vibrant support 3G bands used in India? similarly...is there anything that is US specific and wont be usable in india?
otherwise I am also tempted to buy this one...
also, what about after sales..say I m ready to pay for any issues that occur afterwards...but does samsung india entertain my queries regarding vibrant?
----------Edited

Asking this coz one of my friend is coming next month..I can ask him to bring this with him. On eBay USA site its listed for $339...seems awesome deal

I am in the same boat as madnav, this really looks like a good deal, but are you sure the phone can be unlocked that easily???

To all those above ... I ordered my phone from the same seller and it was brand new running eclair 2.1 . All galaxy phones running eclair JI6 firmware are unlockable via the APP in android market. Even if by chance the app cannot unlock the phone coz it is some of the newer stock , you can buy the unlock code off ebay for about 10-15$ or so. . The warranty is not covered in India and i have no idea if samsung India will entertain requests. Technically..they should as it uses the same chipset and motherboard as the Galaxy S. The Virbant does not have a front facing camera and a trackpad compared to the Galaxy S . Everything else is the same. Supports all the 3G frequencies in India.

Thanks and when did you order your phone, and how long did it take to be delivered?..any customs?

The price includes the Shipping + Taxes + Customs etc.

So, it is the price u pay to get the phone delivered at ur doorstep.

:)

Thanks for reply. But I am not sure if it supports 3G in India.
It comes with 1700/2100 MHz for 3G. Is it the same in India? I know that BSNL is providing services on 2100MHz. But are all private players alos going to use same band? I think they are gonna use 1900 / 2100 MHz. In that case it may not work..can somebody confirm this? I am noob in all this

Check this out...its the official Google specs page for the Samsung Vibrant.

Samsung Vibrant

Connectivity

Network support GSM : 850/900/1800/1900 3G : 1700/1900/2100/

But , GSM Arena is just listing the HSDPA 1700 / 2100 bands. So i dont know who's right :(

Wow 20k thats a great price for SGS

but I don't think samsung will take requests for repairs and damages as they ask for bill before claiming warranty and even if they provide you services then they may charge you a bomb

at that price i will rather consider a 2nd hand sgs under warranty in india.

the vibrant on ebay global does not include all standard accessories, although the ones not included are not costly or hard to find.
