My config:

E2180@3.0GHZ.(stock intel cooler)

Abit ip35-E

3 GB transcend value ram @1000MHZ

corsair 450vx

zebronics bijli cabby.

gigabyte 6600gt 128mb ddr3.

LG 17" crt flatron.

logitech G5laser gaming mouse.

APC 1kva backup ups.

I need your valuable suggestions guys. can i go for 4850 with my present config?. i wont be getting another monitor for a long time.please do suggest which brand ,model etc:) :) . Also does the 4850 has 8 pin connectors 'cause my corsair has only one 6 pin connector :S will that be an issue?
i went to the market i got the following prices:
Sparkle 9600GT ==> Rs6200.

Gigabyte 9600gt 512 ddr3 ==> Rs7400.

MSI 4850 OC edition ==> Rs11200.

palit 4850 ==>Rs9300

sonic 4850 ==>Rs12000.

Are these prices right?????

Awaiting your reply thanks :D

you missed something which slots in between the 96gt and the 4850 :)

theres the ATI 4830 which will be very well suited for your usage

I guess u would be gaming on 1280* 1024

I would suggest a Palit 4850 --> 9.3K, it never hurts to get a high end card at decent prices

This would last much longer, if u continue to game at this resolution

Its a dual slot cooler card and the temps are pretty good

the above model needs only 1 6 pin and ur corsair is more than enough

thanks for the reply guys :) .some reviews say palit is a poor overclocker not that it matters if i am able to play all the games @medium settings for the next 2 yrs.whats your take on this guys :P .i have no problem spending upto 10000
i can strech it upto 11 thats it :( .if i could get the best card that would keep me happy for the next 2 years i would be over the moon to say the least :hap2:

Why dont you do this.

Get a 9600gt for 6k or so and spend the rest 4k to get an LCD instead of CRT

why don't you read his post, he wants a card that should satisfy him for 2 years..
@ sam000

get Palit HD 4850 @ 9.5K..its more than sufficient for your 17" CRT..:)

4850 is overkill for 17" u can run with max eye candy even on 9600GT , if u wont be upgrading monitor then no point getting 4850.

Exactly what I am trying to say

2 Years doesnt mean a shit unless he wants to get off the reso.

IMHO, 9600gt is enough to handle any game at 1024 including crysis.

So unless you plan on getting an LCD, dont get 4850 no matter how much it shines

yes , after 2 years 4850 and 9600gt will be almost same because games will be bottlenecked by the 512mb memory , so dont think 4850 will be much more future proof , if u really want future proof get gtx 260 / 4870 1gb . otherwise 9600gt best for u . if u can spend 12k , get a 260 .

dont compare 9600GT vs 4850, single 4850 = 9600GT SLi, not matter what reviews say.

No relation to frame buffer memory, above games r very demanding. Play XIII century :p

for ur res 9600GT is sufficient, if u have excess money to spend or do not want to listen to reason with illogical inclination to get a 4850 then please satisfy urself :)

You chaps wouldn't be saying that if you were actually using a 96gt and watching it crawl all over the place in GTA4(screw the poor porting nd stuff), Warhead etcetra..

@OP if you wanna get the BEST possible gaming exp for the next how many ever years, spend all the cash on it that you possibly can. No point in skimping..

even if your card is an overkill for current games, it will hold you in good stead for a long while to come.

since your budget is 11k, the automatic recommendation would be the 4850. However, if you CAN increase it by a 1-1.5, surely go for the GTX260 with its larger frame buffer :hap2:

^^ OP listen to the wise man.. get a sonic 4850 or if u can afford it gt260 is it and u r done for 2 years .and regarding the display dont worry abt it .. my bro still games on a 15"crt .. i gifted him a 4850 and he is good to go for next 3 years :P ..

^^ once u buy a 4850 or gtx 260 u will surely be fine for the next 2 yrs, but say after 2 yrs u go and get a new monitor, surely you will buy a wide screen one, at least a 22 incher, at that point you will want to get a better card, believe me u will, even though your 4850/gtx260 be sufficient, still due to future game reqs and advanced techs available you will be tempted to upgrade the gfx. so in essence the extra money you spend now will not be utilised.

^^this,get a >512MB card minimum if you want to play games at decent settings in 2 years time,even a G92 such as 8800gt will do.the framebuffer requirement of games such as FC2,GTA4,fallout3 make it impossible to have fluid framerates even with better graphics horsepower.and with the slower increase in processing power of gpus and release of console ports instead of cpu exclusives like crysis i believe a 8800gt would be able to play at high at 1280x1024 for a long time.
for me GTA4 runs at the same fps no matter if i downclock the card to 400/600 or oc it to 800/1100 at high settings(maybe cpu limited in some cases).same thing happens with fallout3 high res pack,FC2 stutters with ultra high and AA and crysis is in a different league altogether and this at 1024x768 :P
