Hello Friends,

My Ext HDD fell off from height as low as my mini CPU while i was exloring stuff on my Ext HDD. After this my hdd stopped detecting and oly makes a mild humming noise every 2 seconds.

I showed it to 3 Lamington road guys HDD repairers who after keeping it for a week each returned back saying they cannot repair it as the motor is stuck or something.

The Professional Data Recovery(stellar-cbl-seagate etc) people say a cost beyond 25K to 1 lakh INR which is clearly i cannot afford however at the same time i want get around 300 GB of data recovered.

All i want from you guys is if someone can do this for me at a cheaper rate or does any one knows what can be helpful in this regards?

have tried yourself using any disk diagnosis/maintenance s/w.

Use Ultimate boot cd and do a diagnosis using, Viva, MHDD, also add SpinRite to Ultimate boot cd and see if you can at least recover some data.

If the motor/disk is deflected then it may be hard to get your data back.

Thanks for your Quick Reply, My HDD is not detecting only, are you sugggesting to check this in BIOS etc? because i have not tried anything you said only because it was not detecting in Windows. Please advise if i am getting you wrong

does BIOS detect your disk ?

1) If yes, then you have to first download Ultimate boot cd. Get it from Ultimate Boot CD - Download the UBCD

2) Download SpinRite from <you know from where>

3) Extract spinrite and create SpinRite.img from SpinRite6.exe on your local disk

4)Add SpinRite to UltimateBoot CD. read how to from Ultimate Boot CD - Customizing UBCD .

5) Burn your custom Ultimate boot cd created at step 4, and boot your system with it.

First of all decide how much you can spend on data recovery process and how important data you have on disk, then contact any professional for data recovery. Sorry to say, you cant do data recovery if HDD not detecting in BIOS.
