2.1 speaker for old TV at home !!

Hello Everybody,

I wish to by a 2.1 speaker system for my home. The basic usage will be to act as a poor man's home theatre :). So I need to connect it to my old LG tv and sometimes to my laptop.
My budget is limited to 2k. Pls let me know the best possible purchase I can make in this amount.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I was going through some threads and checking some reviews as well. and found that most of the people were recommending either ATP3 or X230 .. how would creative inspire rate as compared to these ??
 
not as good, however , your budget cannot accommodate either of these speakers, unless you know someone who is willing to sell them second hand ( quite rare)
 
neither the X230 or the ATP3 are sold currently methinks

their current equivalents will cost 2.5~3k
 
I can expand till 3k if the diff. in quality is worth it. What are the equivalents you are talking about and why the above mentioned models have been stopped, any ideas ??
 
To my ears , the quality is worth it. however, you need to hear it and decide for yourself. the Logitech has spawned two models now, the X 210 and 240

while the VS4121 is the replacement of the ATP3.

I'd recommend the logitechs if action movies are your kind of thing, while the Altec lansing is much better for music and pretty much everything else.

listen to them and decide for yourself if they are worth the 1k extra

replaced with new models. e.g. ATP3 - VS4121. Though not sure of the quality:D
 
Thanks everybody. The speaker usage will be 80% movies/serials + 20% music.

Whats the price of X240 in NP.. anybody got any idea ??
 
Ok guys, I finally zeroed in on x230 speakers and going to buy them tomorrow. Could any of you tell me what cables I need to buy to connect those speakers with my old LG TV ??? and their price ???
 
Thanks for all the help, guys. I am able to secure x-230 from NP.

The speakers are fantastic, and work like a charm with my TV. But when I try to connect them to my acer 4930 laptop with XP-SP3, the woofer doesnt come into the party at all. I only hear a very faint thump with the beats which doesnt change even if I change the bass to maximum in the controller provided in the woofer.

I have Realtek HD-audio manager installed in my laptop.

Can anybody pls let me know how to fix this issue ??

The music I am using for testing are all 320Kbps-VBR mp3 songs.

I have a feeling that the jack is not inserted correctly. Try changing the balance to either extreme in the laptop, and see if the sound comes from only one speaker in either case .
