Hi guys.

This is basically what I am looking for.

I have a MacBook with 160 GB 2.5" Internal SATA II drive.

I want to buy an external drive for backing up (320 or 500 GB) via USB.

And after 1/2 years, I want to be able to put in that larger drive inside my notebook. Will buy even larger drive for bakcup.

Basically this will go on and on. Buy a larger drive, put the drive from the external disk to the laptop, again buy a larger drive..

What are my options?

wow

i am impressed - i hope the loop is not infinite?

u have 160gb now - go for 250gb - then go for 320 gb - then go for 500 gb

that gives you 3 iterations - else u end up on 500gb very soon - since right now 1tb is not yet freely available?

Oh come on guys, I am asking what to go for?

1. A good 2.5" SATA II drive 9.5 mm in height. 320/500 GB.

2. An external case to go with it.

There seems to be a WD Scorpio Blue 500. A search on WD's site reveals the model no. - WD5000BEVT. (There's a 320GB variant as well!)

Link: WD Scorpio Blue 500 GB SATA Hard Drives ( WD5000BEVT )

I'd suggest you pick up this drive instead of a Seagate since the former offers a slightly better customer support by having the defective drive picked up from the doorstep (in case your city falls under the list of services offered i.e)

EDIT: No clue about the external casing though. Might want someone else to answer that query. :P
