Police on Sunday arrested a 21-year-old girl for questioning the total shutdown in the city for Bal Thackeray's funeral on her Facebook account.


Another girl who 'liked' the comment was also arrested.


The duo were booked under Section 295 (a) of the IPC (for hurting religious sentiments ) and Section 64 (a) of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Though the girl withdrew her comment and apologised, a mob of some 2,000 Shiv Sena workers attacked and ransacked her uncle's orthopaedic clinic at Palghar.


"Her comment said people like Thackeray are born and die daily and one should not observe a bandh for that," said PI Uttam Sonawane.

Its a cooked up story Bro, no concrete news about it. Many people commented on FB regarding this incident and I dont think anyone will be arrested just because of a post on FB. BTW Keep up the good work .If we get some concrete news on it then accept my apology for saying that its a cooked up story. You dont believe politicians but you believe media, thats hard to digest. Both IMO are same. Not everything they say is true.
 
well don't understand the purpose of this thread.
IMO its best not to comment on such incidents. .whether you like the that political party or not, its a sad news that he passed away and any stupid comment will only attract anger. .it is what it is.
 
Exactly my point @Obi-Wan , see here, me and my family and many more families respected him as a leader, not coz of any political party, so his death has really been a bad thing for us atleast Maharashtrians. You guys might hate him, but it doesnt mean you can hurt sentiments of people attached to him. Its like someone in a persons family dies and his neighbour who hated him comes and says "accha hua".

Yeah, facebook should be banned too. Say "under Section 295 (a) of the IPC (for hurting religious sentiments )" or such. :)
 
NEWS FLASH

Two women in Mumbai have been granted bail, after they were arrested for questioning on Facebook the shutdown of Mumbai on Sunday, the day of Bal Thackeray's funeral.

One of the women, Shaheen Dhada, had written on her Facebook page, "We should remember Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev", two martyrs of India's independence struggle. Her friend Renu had "liked" the post.

Police had arrested both the women under Section 505 of the Indian Penal Code, which is for inciting violence.

Many of my friends were debating about this on FB the whole day and no one was arrested for it. We had football matches yesterday in our area, no one came to threaten us. Now dont tell me that only maharashtrians might be playing. And let me tell you how dirty politics can be, even some other parties can take advantage of such situations to run riots coz they know in such a situation (for this very incident) its sena who is going to be blamed. Anyways those minions doing it are illiterate people.

Did this really happen? I cannot believe this. I suppose even people criticizing Mr. Sibbal for his anti-Internet stand were not heard being arrested ??
 
the root cause : draconian provisions of the IT Act like 66A, 64A etc. they are against some of the articles of our constitution. a case is going on I guess to remove those sections. btw had this happened in a BJP ruled state, all hell would have broken lose, the 24x7 TV media houses would have had collective orgies in making the CM personally responsible and projecting him as hitler. Now does any news show even mention the words 'congress govt in maharashtra' ?

ironically the bandh was actually called off. but how come the miscreants identity been so soon tagged as shiv sainiks, I'm doubting youth congress workers :P working under a plan of congress to compensate for the many bottoms that were burning yesterday on seeing such a huge crowd on the street with zero cases of violence.

Next time you read a FB post saying "Having Dinner" Dont you dare criticize that person.

He/She wont be going to prison :P
 
My office is in the same building where MID-DAY office is.

They reported that lot of pick pockets were caught last evening at shivaji maidan, but they choose not to disclose entire details of the news as in to which caste & religion they belong to or what language they spoke but every one knows here.

Mentioning this here will irk some members here on TE, sometimes it's better that entire truth should not be told.

Moral of the story is that the bad has no castle, religion nor language.
