Hey,

I have 2 questions;

1. Can I chat with an online representative from Dell about sales and orders?

2. Should I go with the Dell Studio XPS 16 with Core i7 processor
OR
Wait for the Studio 15 laptop to be updated with a Core i7 processor?
Also, what is the difference between the two laptops especially in weight?

Thanks

1. Yes, you can definitely talk with the sales representative for the sales and orders. Use the toll free number. :)

2. IMO, Studio is good, unless you plan to play games on it. If you play the latest games, go for XPS else stick to Studio.

Go with XPS 16 as technically XPS 16 is 15.6" and studio 15 is 15.5" so it's the same! But XPS is more sleek and sexy PLUS you get 1GB ATI 4670 and option of DDR3 RAM which you don get with studio 15.

SXPS16 is sexy.. heavy but sexy.

I should know. I have one with the P8600 and 3670 :)

Only issue is that it gets hot as **** near the touch pad because of the 5300 wireless card. I've heard awful things about the 5100 so please avoid it :)

I confirmed this will the Dell CC and they assured me that the new one with Core i7 has been better designed for air flow and will not get 'that' hot. Let's see now as my roomie as already ordered one.

That's good news!

Other than the heat, its just the size/weight. Great for work. Lots of power. But its not a portable machine. Then again, if you wanted portability, you wouldn't be getting a 16 inch laptop ;)

I don't enjoy gaming on it as much as I thought I would. I mean, its awesome but I love the keyboard.. I don't feel like going all out :P USB keyboards seem like a good option :P

So Studio 15 is the best bet.

Any idea when the core i7 Studio 15 will come out for configuration?

If it's just the portability factor that's stopping you from the XPS 16, don't worry. I own a XPS M1530. It's got the 15.6" too. The laptop fits without any hassles in any 15" bag.

So, worry not, go for the Studio XPS 16. The build is better compared to Studio series. Also, I have a feeling they use inferior parts in the studio series compared to the XPS. It's just my feeling; haven't been able to verify it..
