Upgrading from my Poco M5 (4G) phone.

Just want a simple reliable phone that'll get me through my day.

Just got a gaming laptop, so I won't game on it.

Bonus points if it's got a protective case in the box.

IMO a good nonsense option at under 15k (after CC discount), has big battery + close to stock android UI + 256GB storage (IMO 8/256GB is must have now) + 3.5mm jack
Cons are slow charging & boots Android 14 (will get Android 15, if it hasn't already)

iQOO Z10x 256GB will be 15.8k after CC discount, has slightly better performance, battery & charging with Android 15 to boot. Vivo's UI is not the best but will be ok (better than Xiaomi IMO).

iQOO Z10X / Vivo T4X
Realme P3

Last year models
CMF Phone 1
Samsung M35
Moto G85 is now in your budget but that has got curved display.
Moto G45 8GB for 11k is good but HD+ display
Realme Narzo 70 Turbo
Surprising to see iQOO Z10x & Vivo T4X at the same price, usually the latter is more expensive. I observed that Oppo & Vivo have become more price competitive recently. Earlier Oppo & Vivo were a blind no from me (Realme/OP/iQoo were always cheaper).

Including bank offers. You know with offers, price fluctuates everyday like gold.
Z10X base variant 12750/-
Vivo T4x base variant costs 13500/-

Until I started looking for phones, all BBK brands were not in my radar. Poco/Moto/Samsung were the only brands I considered up until that time.

Just curious why no poco. You seem to have used one. What went wrong?
Poco phones being gaming oriented is just marketing. It's basically xiaomi's internet only brand, with redmi /mi phones with a different back cover and device ID. ROM support etc you can run the exact same builds etc.

If you're not happy with a poco, you're going to have the same experience with the other Chinese brands, probably worse.mi phones are like maruti suzuki. Average phones, but cheap and great service.
PS: try to get a snapdragon based phone this time

UI optimisation - Xiaomi's UI is inferior to BBK now, so easier to recommend even vivo/iQoo over Xiaomi. Even battery optimisation is not good enough for the hardware.

Check battery numbers:

Poco is still great if you want the best gaming phone for the price.

Im using poco x6, it serves my purpose very well. Gorgeous display and ui is good enough for me. I dont care about gaming and camera on my phone. I have pc and camera for this purpose. Great battery backup, but i did debloat using adb universal debloater from pc on day 1 of buying this phone and also turned off updates. In modern phones update does more harm than good, like green line and what not

Snapdragon is still better than mediatek. It just better, better video codecs and efficiency. Don't go for mediatek, also less option for custom rom as they close source their rom and kernel stuff.

After using poco f6 for a month,
I can confidently say that battery optimization is shit.
Idle battery drain is 2 percent per hour, using 2x 4g network and while on wifi.
God knows what will happen if u are idling while using 5g data.
Fortunately i m rooted and on custom kernel, so its way less.
But i wouldnt recommend current poco phones due to this.

Personally I'm a fan of poco because their service is spectacular. My phones tend to get damaged frequently because of young kids. They have several service centers in my tier 2 town, repairs are cheap because parts are cheap and modular (separate boards for the stuff that gets damaged easy) and the service is good (they put the phone back together with brand new seals etc)

Compared to that other phones have shitty service and reliability (moto x4 died because power button died, two pixels died from crap charging ports) and both needed full board replacement costing more than market value of the phone.
Meanwhile the poco M3 i bought in 2021 still running fine - my maid has it and she's a big fan of it's week long battery life after putting pixel experience on it, and currently using an x4 and an f5. Yes the pics are crap, but gcam helps a little. The UI is bloated, but the debloater removes everything (with bbk phones there are some apps you can't). The 67w charging is nice for that price range
