Hi,

This is URGENT as the heat now in Mumbai is AWFUL

Looking for a 2 Ton Window AC for my Living Room (23 x 10 x 8.9) feet - Length/ Width/ Height. We are staying on the 2nd floor of a 3 storied building.

Space already exists to fit the AC (660 x 430mm).

East Facing & Sunlight until 12 noon or so. Large Glass Windows on the east side (8.7 x 5). I also have 1 open door on the west (leading to the Kitchen) & 1 open door on the north side (leading to a corridor & towards the bedroom )- Both these "open-doors" have full length curtains only. And the main entrance door is to the south.

It should be 1] Energy Efficient; 2] higher star rating (if that's important)

Lastly - there is no way that I can go for a split AC as provision does not exist.

Thanks.

thanks #[member='babhishek'] ... I too am veering towards Hitachi itself (will cost me 35.5K).......... although it's the 2nd most expensive in this category. The most expensive I think is O-general ...... but I would rather go for Hitachi.

Samsung (I learnt this ONLY today) has STOPPED manufacturing Window AC's ..... (Jan 31, 2012 reports in papers + their website does NOT display any Window AC's at All)...... Old stocks are still available..... BUT I would never go for it.

LG - has 2 ton AC's which are cheaper than Hitachi - BUT the tech-specs do not match what Hitachi offers. And the others - Godrej; Electrolux; Voltas..... etc I am not sure

My usage, would be "just when it's really needed ....as in summer or when we have guests & the weather is intolerable" not daily and the whole year round each day.

I also realise than in the 2 ton category (for Window AC's) - Energy Efficient AC's are hard to come by ........ the max is a 3* Rating. Unfortunately, I cannot go for a Split-AC.

I hope Hitachi Service is good in Mumbai.

Looking for more feedback from TE folks

Terry

Narrowed down my choice to HITACHI - "WINDOW AC - 2.0TR CLASS HITACHI SUMMER TM - RAT322ESD" - Twin Motor, etc....

MRP is 36140/-

http://www.hitachi-hli.com/quadricoolTM.html

getting it for 32K @Vijay Sales - Goregaon (The Hub), Mumbai - after the exchange offer of my old National AC (less 2500/-)

Not really had time to evaluate Carrier or LG

Most likely to conclude deal on Saturday - by 11:30 am

Any other suggestions folks ????????????????

Window AC's O'general ! Have seen them last for ages myself and the cooling is awesome , unmatched . BlueStar ofcourse but the service stories are pathetic for home users .

Though frankly I dont know how Hitachi is in AC dept , but I got a couple of Hitachi products and they work beautifully , as required .

But you wont really get 5 star O'general in window ACs .

Carrier , well I wont talk much , maximum i can say is stay away ! .

Go for hitachi . Hitachi service from personal experience is fine , they also reply to your e-mails , atleast they replied to mine .

All I say from personal experience , please do take other opinions .

Cheerio

Thanks Folks .... Just Ordered & Paid in Full for the HITACHI "WINDOW AC - 2.0TR CLASS HITACHI SUMMER TM - RAT322ESD" from Vijay Sales, Goregaon, Mumbai - Rs 32000/-

Delivery will de done tomorrow & hopefully the installation also. Will post a review after observing it's performance. Thanks Guys on TE.

And I had to rule out OGeneral - owing to it's physical dimensions (which would not fit in my existing slot). Incidently, I realise it is very hard to find a report online on "comparitive testing of 2 ton Window AC's" .... esp of what is available in India.

Incidently for Window AC's in the 2 Ton category - You will never find 5 Star Rating...... The nearest is HItachi (above model) with a 3 Star Rating - All the rest have only 1 or 2 Star.

Keeping my fingers crossed that this AC fit's comfortably in the slot that we have.... or else I have to blow more $$$$ & kharcha to modify the placement in the existing slot.

Thanks TE

Cheers

Even I have a pre-cut out AC outlet on the window but I still opted for a Split AC. After I figured out that window AC were too audible for my liking. Besides, in split AC you get a lot more variety and power effeciency among a host of other features.

The empty space is ofcourse covered by curtains so it doesn't bother.

[Update] - Didn't notice the last post that you ordered the AC already. Enjoy!

Oh dear #[member='ahd'] .... I had lengthy discussions (and arguments!!!) with my wifie who wanted a split-AC, however the logistics of making these new arrangements & modifications were beyond my budget (crossing 50K or more)..... so that's why I decided to opt for the "best window-ac" in the 2 ton class. The noise part in this ac is minimal (although still not comparable to a split) ..... and power efficiency ..... well, I think all those good split AC's of 2 ton capacity are 42K onwards.....

told you !

have a cool summer!

I hope so ..... and that for many more years

The above AC was promptly delivered on Sat 12th May by 13:30 hrs and Installation was completed by 15:15 hrs. Excellent service by Vijay Sales.

I have used it only twice so far (2 nights). I am finding it difficult to figure out it's countless advanced features and functions (leave aside the programmable ones). The official demo by Hitachi guys can only be scheduled for Sat (as I am not available during working hours).

Strange but I am having problems trying to figure out how to "adjust" the Temp - control (It's fixed at 25 deg C now) through the remote
