PC Peripherals 2233SW, not supporting my external tv tuner card

I have the same problem...have a samsung 2233SW and a TV tuner(pretty old) works fine with 15"CRT monitor but display lasts only 40-50 seconds on 2233SW.
A question for guys who successfully used this monitor as TV. do you get the kind of clarity you would get on a TV? coz I am getting bad quality(watchable, but not crisp and smooth as shud be from a DTH). I am using an RF cable(normal cable TV connector) between set top box and TV tuner. would some other cable make a difference and increase the quality?

moreover, which is the best TV tuner card that you guys would suggest here...should I get an internal one?(its risky, I blew up my PC once due to returning current in cable wire :ashamed:)

Please let me know

Yes, I too previously was using my external tv tuner with 15" CRT monitor. But after bringing this LCD, my tv tuner card didn't worked. So I bought Umax Tvision external tv tuner card, and I am watching tv on 1440 x 900 resolution on the same LCD.

And yes, I am also using RF cable. (Dish tv) And no degradation in quality. You just need to buy a new tv tuner supporting atleast this resolution. My tu ner supports maximum 1680 x 1050 resolution, but still I use 1440 x 900 resolution, I feel that right. You'll need to experiment according to your choice.

@saqib_khan : does this extrenal TV tuner card work without starting the pc? and what connector does it use? DVI or VGA?

is it possible to have the monitor dvi port connected to the gpaphics card and the vga port connected to the TV tuner? how have you configured it?

Yes, you don't need to start the CPU, just switch ON the LCD and Tv Tuner and you can watch the TV.

There aren't any external tv tuner cards that support DVI. So you would have to compulsorily use VGA connector to connect. And NO, you won't be able to connect your graphic card through DVI and tv tuner to VGA. This cannot be done. Because first a VGA cable from LCD goes to tv tuner, and then another cable is used which goes from tv tuner to graphic card. I hope you understood.

thanks Saqib, but why do we need to have the connection from tv-tuner to pc? i mean i case if we want a standalone tv functionality without the pc switched on?

it is because of this confusion i am not able to a tv tuner for my 2233SW. :(

If you just want a standalone TV funtionality, then you dont need this cable :)

Obviously dont connect this cable and you'll be fine, but if you have PC, then you'll need to.
