I recently purchased a Seagate 250GB 700 Barracuda Hard Disc and then I read on the net that these drives made in Thailand are crashing at a rate of 40% and the situation is almost close to a product recall due to faulty firmware, so I'm planning to return it.

Can you please recommend any other good brand of reliable Hard Disc preferably in the 250GB category or even 160 GB ?

Thanks in advance!

Go for Hitachi HD. They r highly reliable. Many of my friends & I have it & no problem till now. Go for 250 GB SATA II Hitachi HD.

I'm also looking for a good (250GB/320GB) SATA HDD (Anything apart from Seagate would do!):bleh:

Prices and brands - Suggestions ??
Inclined towards WD/Hitachi

Get WD 250GB from Rahul. Atleast no tension of going to Seagate center for RMA (in metros)

1 more postive review for Hitachi..

My Hitachi 250 Hitachi HDD Sata II is working since 2 yrs.

Also PC is nearly on 24x7 and heavy torrenting 12x7, so load is maximum.

Although due to my negligence, I had to RMA it once.

Anyways I would prefer Hitachi anyday over Seagate..

seagate sucks
i have a 250 hdd baracuda which once again crashed without any symptoms or slightest warning. i lost "ALL" my data, which was precious to me :(
i called up the chennai office but they didn't show any support.
all you can do it forget about the data and send the hdd for replacement
this is the 3rd time my hdd went nuts
i have to travel all the way to andheri ( saki naka ) and leave hdd for a some period which is not definate.
