How could this have happened? !! :S :(

is it the hdd problem itself? is it the power supply problem?? what is it? what can i do about it....

Would love to get some suggestions here...

your hdd must have gotten into PIO mode.

go to device manager->IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers

check which channel your hdd is on and if its running on DMA or PIO. if device manager shows it to be running in PIO, right click that particular channel and delete it.

reboot.

everything should be back to normal now.

thanks for the help guys, it up and running again :D

any idea, why it went to PIO mode?

Probably because your HDD or cable is getting ready to give up the ghost... sort of.

First thing is to check Event Viewer under the System category for these signs... typically for events indicating "bad block found on hard disk" or "hard disk took too long to respond", etc and if these events are indeed present, check and see for how long and how frequently they've been happening. That will be one indicator of how serious the problem may be.

Also run a thorough online SMART scan using SpeedFan (it's free!) to know the real condition of problems if any on the disk.
