Juggernaut
I'm on the hunt for a good monitor. System specs are 12400F and 3070. Use case: mostly media consumption and gaming.
Have a few questions:
1) If I buy 4K, does playing games on 2K looks bad on it as compared to native 2K monitor?
2) Should I prioritize 2K high refresh rate or 4K 60Hz? I'm coming from a 24" 1080p 75Hz IPS panel.
3) VA or IPS? 27" or 32"?

Shortlisted a few:

More suggestions welcome. Thanks!

VA would have better colors+deeper blacks(depending on the monitor) but slow response times. IPS Would be the opposite
Also playing with 2k resolution on a 4k monitor would look fuzzy/blurry. Won't be that noticeable if you sit far enough away but it will look worse than using 2k resolution on 2k monitor.
Considering you have a 3070 you should go for a 2k monitor unless you plan to get a new gpu in the near future or are okay with lowering graphics settings in game.

If you play any competitive games like cs2/valorant/rainbow6/apex etc I'd suggest the xv272u v3. While there aren't many reviews of this unit its basically the older kv version without the proximity sensor and the front usb hub with the display oc'd from 170 to 180hz. Alternatively the MSI mag274qrf is the best 2k ips high refresh monitor but sadly way overpriced in India so I wont recommend buying it

If you only play singleplayer games the Lenovo G27q-30 is a good option as its a VA panel. The response times would be really bad compared to the acer but color reproduction would be better. It might cause ghosting in some fast motion games and flickering though. Also viewing angles would be worse than the acer.

So if you just want monitor that has the best looking picture quality but worse response times and motion blur reduction in 20-22k range go for the g27q-30. If you want to play it safe the acer xv272u v3 would be my go-to choice

Also don't go for 2k 32 inch monitors as the picture will look worse since we sit close to the monitor unlike tv/console.

1. No

2. Yes, 1440p 144Hz+ over 4K 60Hz anyday because of monitor size. IMO at 50cm, 27" 1440p has high enough pixel density.

3. IPS - most VAs are inferior, especially in response time

Get Acer XV272U V3 IMO, will suffice. I have i5 12400 + 3070 as well, using a 1440p 170Hz monitor from Asus. I optimise SP or coop game fps to be 70+ fps on average, with that the 1% low fps is usually not under 60fps, resulting in a smooth experience. Except few 2023 games, most of them run very well at 1440p on a 3070, just keep an eye on VRAM usage & lower textures if needed.
