90K+ 3080 10GB for 40k or 4070 for 60k (with power usage in mind)

Hello,
I am looking to build an AMD PC for running applications like Blender, Da vinci resolve, CAD and simulation software and Adobe suite. It'll be used by me and my big brother. Now I was looking for good value GPUs and since I was making a new pc from scratch I chose 4070 as it was reasonable for my budget and value. But then I found this post by @powervgx :

(it's an LHR GPU & it doesn't matter for my use-case right?)

Now I have two options: To buy the 3080 10GB for 40K OR to buy 4070 12GB for 60k

3080 has 2GB less VRAM and uses around 100W more power. I could buy the 3080 and save 20k now. But the increased power usage would normalise the benefit in 5-6 years
How I calculated it:
320W-200W = 120W = 0.120kwh
0.12 * 16hr usage daily = 1.92 ~ 2kwh extra daily
In my state 2 units are around 8 Rs
20,000/8 = 2,500 days
2,500/365 = 6.84 years ~ 5/6 years (let's say)

So what should be my move? Which card do I get?

4070 is What I would recommend!}
1) DLSS 3 support.
2) 2gb more ram.
3) more power efficient!

I don't recommend 4070 and 4070 ti at all. These are poor value compared to used 3080/3080 ti.

Also, 320 watt power consumption is for full load. Are you going to use the GPU at 100% load for 16 hours every day?
Only gaming and blender rendering can load your GPU to 100%. Video editing, working in blender, using any other software or rendering your videos won't use 100% GPU.
If you reduce your expected usage to about 5 hours everyday at 100% load which is also a very high use case scenario. Then it will take about 15-18 years to offset the cost.

Nvidia is always better for all the pro softwares so both GPU's are good in that aspect.

Regarding gaming, 4070 performs a bit better at 1080p
3080 performs a bit better on 1440p.
At 4k, 3080 is ahead because of its larger bus width.
DLSS 3 adds latency and inserts low quality frames so it is not a great solution like DLSS 2.
So, you can ignore DLSS 3.

Regarding VRAM, 4k video editing is fine even on 8 GB so that is not an issue. Blender may require more VRAM depending on the scene. But paying 20k for that one scenario is not worth it unless it is the only thing you are doing.

I also have a 3080 ti 12 GB and a 4080 if more VRAM is a must for you.

second this. I have a gaming PC with 3060 which is rated for 170w. When idling, it consumes ~10w. I usually game at 1080p medium-high settings, well optimized games like Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, Assassin's creed, Jedi Fallen Order, Spiderman, Tomb Raider make the GPU use about 60-70w of power at these settings. Only when I push the settings to ultra or switch to 1440p, does the GPU power go over 130w. Slightly less optimized games like Plague Tale Requiem also push the power consumption beyond 100w at high settings itself.

So basically your GPU will be running at full power only when it's rendering or gaming at ultra settings. And if you are editing video, what portion of your time will be editing vs rendering? Editing would usually take longer. Even then, if you're worried about power consumption, you can easily limit the power using any application like MSI Afterburner. From my (admittedly limited) experience, you can get about 90% of the performance at about 70% power consumption. So power consumption should not be the deciding factor.

4070 is just an upsell for the 4070ti, if you're getting the same performance for 20k less it's a no brainer. Unless your main games comprise of Cyberpunk or Microsoft flight simulator which have support for DLSS 3, I really see no need for buying a 4000 series card

Sorry for hijacking the thread but wanted to ask which GPU will be your choice for 4k gaming w/o breaching the 75k mark If we are looking at new GPU’s only.

Just 10 months ago a 3070 would've been good enough for gaming but we've seen the absolute garbage state games release in now so the bar is up there now

True. I plan on getting a 4090 in far future but till then, I guess I'll let the CPU handle it (software encoding).
But I might also try getting a 2nd intel GPU to handle AV1 encoding. (If the CPU really can't handle it well).

Sorry for hijacking the thread but wanted to ask which GPU will be your choice for 4k gaming w/o breaching the 75k mark If we are looking at new GPU’s only.

If purely for gaming, I would look at AMD GPUs. In some sites you can get 6950xt in/under 75k.
6800xt and above will handle 4k nicely.
If you care about Ray tracing then Nvidia would be better.
