Video 32" Lcd Suggestion

Planning to kick out my old CRT in my bedroom and want to finally jump onto the LCD side. My viewing distance would be at least 15 feet, approximately. As I understand, 720p would be enough for a 32" TV right?

My main usage would be for movies and games. I need 3 HDMI slots and can't compromise on it. Also, I don't have a lavish budget, so anything in 23k range would be fine. I was eyeing on this model from Panasonic: Panasonic Viera 32 Inches HD LCD TH-L32X24D

How are Panasonic LCD's in terms of clarity? Should I order it online or local stores would be preferred?

Best thing for you to do is to visit a local store and compare the various TVs... personally i felt that the panasonic ones had lesser clarity. Even toshiba was way better

Panasonic IPS panels have been recieving favourable feedbacks lately. I wonder whether they are better than sony's or samsung's

May be #sunnyboi can pitch in here

Weren't all LG LCD TVs IPS ?

There is a full HD model for 26k

I was curious as even the manufacturers website doesnt make a mention of the same!

But another model from LG 32LV3500 price at 34K, has clearly mentioned its an IPS panel. Price is from FlipKart.

Have a look at Pansonic L32U30D. Priced at 28k slightly above your budget. But then this a FHD with IPS alpha panel. I havent seen any reviws as such but was curious myself to pick up this. any users please comment!

Full HD isn't a necessity for me, since I most of my HD content is usually 720p anyway; both console gaming and videos. So I can sacrifice on that aspect.

Absolutely! That's what I have always done in all my previous Television purchases. However, I'm not sure what discounts would be offered at shops, as opposed to online.

Is LG a good brand? I have always had negative reservations towards it.

The Panasonic model I have listed above, too, doesn't have listing of it, on the official website. Perhaps, they have phased out the model. L32U30D is out of my budget.

I really liked Panasonic LCDs. They had really good PQ and good dark levels although the DCR on it is only 20,000. I stopped worrying about DCR lately!

All panasonic models are DLNA enabled and comes with an ethernet port. check if you can get 3 years warranty on them.

i bought a toshiba 32inch for 16000. i'm happy with it though connectivity is low(1hdmi).compare it with others and buy

AFAIK, Sony employees gets some employee discount.

Something like 40% + on selected models - circulated to them in the starting of every month.

If anybody knows any sony employee - it worth a shot to ask about it.

JFYI, thread-jacking isn't exactly considered a good forum etiquette.

Just bumping this up for an update:

I just made trip to Croma this morning to see if I could get an up-close look at the Panasonic TH-L32U20 LCD model (selling for Tradus @19k) and watch it in action. Unfortunately, this is a very dated model and they only had the TH-L32U30, which had a standard cable channel being played and it looked absolutely horrendous. But then something else caught my eye, a 40-inch VU LC40V86P model, which had a price tag of 30k and had amazing picture quality. However, I had barely heard about this brand and never seen anyone recommending it either, so was wondering if it would be a risky choice. Any thoughts?

Welcome to Vu Technologies

I think VU uses IPS panels. I think i read a review of that 40inch tv on some site (tech2 i guess) which said it was not that sharp compared to tv's from Samsung/Sony. The picture turned a bit of blurry when noise reduction was turned on in the tv.
