After the latest fiasco with my HDD connector bursting into flames and damaging the HDD, I am seriously considering getting most of my storage separate from the PC Cabinet which is already cramped for space.

So looking for a enclosure that can house up to 4 x 3.5" HDD with each one 2TB or higher. I don't need anything fancy like support for various RAID configurations. All I need is JBOD support (HDD need to be accessible independent of each other) and connectivity in terms of E-SATA and USB. Gigabit LAN is optional and not really required (especially since it drastically increases cost).

Budget is 8k or less.

I have come across a Sans Digital TR4M on ebay (Not available any more) which seems to fit my requirements though there is no word on the max capacity of each hdd supported. Does any here own it? There's also CFI models, but it does not have E-SATA support. Are there any other options?

Pretty lame move there if you ask me. Just connect that supplied SATA power cable from the HX's bundle and use it. Have it routed properly. Since the motherboard tray is removable you can have it kept on the left side and invert the board so all the connectors come to the bottom side - explained in this pic.

Next up - get rid of those drives with smaller capacities. I always do that and ensure that I do not have more than 4 drives in my system at any given time. ATM I have a 640GB, 1TB, 1.5TB and 2 TB drive. I shall shortly be switching to an SSD so I'll get rid of the 640GB drive. :P

Will save you some considerable dough. Having a full tower and another enclosure for the hard drives is pretty lame IMO.
