Graphic Cards 4670 or 9800GT Graphic Card with a AM2 4400+CPU

Hi

I was thinking of buying a 4670 or a 9800GT with my existing AM2 4400+ (Brisbane) CPU & 4GB DDR2 667 RAM

I just realised that i may be wasting my money in buying these graphic cards as my CPU may be a bottleneck & i am better off with a 8600GT or similar card.

Is this CPU sufficient for a 4670 or a 9800GT ?

should be fine with 4670..

consider overclocking by a small margin just incase..

anyways, post your complete configuration..

mainly, psu and resolution at which you would be gaming at.

people would be able to suggest you precise options just incase if you mention the type of games you would be playing.

My main query is whether my CPU can bottleneck a good GPU or not

Post your complete configuration, especially PSU, to see if OC'ing your CPU is safe or not.

I have a 5000+ Brisbane 2.6 GHz, and TE members here suggested me a 9800GT+A good PSU (Gigabyte 460w for eg), so i do think your CPU should be fine after OC'ing it just a little.

EDIT : shravank30 in another thread started by you, you ve asked whether the 9800GT Green Edition can run on your existing VIP PSU, is this the same card you are talking about in this thread or the normal 9800GT ???

If yes, then upgrading your PSU is all you need to do. If no, then upgrading your PSU and OC'ing your CPU should do the trick ( i reckon you can do max 2.5 GHz on that CPU)
 
better upgrade ur psu first before buying any of these 2 gpu's as both of them need 6 pin power.. i.e. 20-30w @ idle and 125-135w @ load
 
Your CPU will not be a bottleneck. Go with 9800GT. I have the same processor & a 4850. (Which is higher in performance compared to 9800GT). So you wont face any problem with 9800 GT also.
 
DONT buy anything now, wait for AMD Dx11 HD5600 series which is tad batter than HD4670 in specs(and much more in performance i presume)

it will be priced fairly around or lesser than 9800GT and shud be a good, low power consuming future proof choice
 
Don't settle for anything below an 8800GT level GPU, because that is the sweetspot for you.

An 8600GT is too slow and will prove to be a bottleneck itself for your CPU.
And while anything at or above 8800GT level will be too powerful for your CPU, a bottlenecked GPU is always better than a bottlenecked CPU (allows you to crank up the resolution, settings and AA without a performance hit).

+1 to this....just wait for 1 more month....if you need GPU urgently then 4670 doesn't require PSU change....but with 9800GT you certainly require a change..
but 9800GT>>4670 in terms of performance...

I am on the lookout for a 4670 or 9800 GT (green edition) as both do not require a additional power connector as I do not want to upgrade my SMPS currently.

But i was only wondering if i am going for a very demanding graphic card which cannot be fed by the 4400+.

I am not into ocing and is ruled out.

Please advise if the 4400+ can feed a 9800GT (Green edition) or a 4670
 
^^You better read all the replies Dude. I previously also said that you won't face any problem even with 9800GT. I myself have 4400+ proccy & am using 4850 GPU. No bootleneck or anything. So go for 9800GT.

Yes it will feed both. OCing would have only allowed you more leeway in gaming with high settings and details (Of course with better PSU)

Dude don't get the 4670 wait a while and upgrade your PSU to a gigabyte superb 460W and go for the 9800GT. it is way more powerful than a 4670 or a 5670. ATI is making DX11 cards now but DX11 is not yet mainstream. So the 9800GT will hold out but be careful not to get the Green edition. I have used the 4670 with a 4400+ Brisbane @stock clocks and played crysis at high @ 1280x768 without any lags and on a non branded PSU. My System lasted me for over 2 and a half years. It did not cause any problems save with Vista. But then it worked like a charm with 7. As far as the 9800GT Eco is concerned it will handle most games without any hassle but may not work later so you should get whichever you like.But do check if they are the green edition or not!!
 
get the 5670 (performs better than a 9600GT) and a FPS saga 2 350W for some Rs1.6k odd and you will be good to go :) . You can try it with your normal PSU also, but i don't trust them since the time i removed my old "400W" PSU that came with the cabby, had only 7amps on the 12V !
 
Better upgrade your PSU and get a standard 9800gt or atleast a 9600gt standard . But 9800gt would be better. If you want to save some penny for PSU upgrade then you can take 9600gt ( standard edition ). In both the cases a PSU upgrade is a must.

In your 1st post you have asked the perf. of 9800gt with 4670. Definetely 9800gt (standard) is far better than 4670 and the latter one will be easily beaten by a 9600gt (standard) itself...

The 9800gt (green) might seem worth for the time being, but later you will regret, as after sometime it becomes impossible to handle the latest games...

5670 should be cheaper than a 9600GT and does not need a 6 pin power connector.
 
go for hd4670 its better choice its ok with ur psu where 9800gt require a better psu...or go for hd 5670..its also good
 
Upto you completely. If you think you can spend the extra cash now then any person would say a 9800GT(Standard not green edition) with a standard PSU. Else if you don't want to spend much then go for the 4670 or 5670 which is 9800GT(Standard)>5670>4670.
