I'm planning to buy a graphics card for my rig....

Since two of the 4850's and one 4870 1GB cost the same 16k ..(Palit)

I need some help out here. Which one shall i go for???
Performance point of view and VFM...

Will problems will come from configuring a crossfire???
ATI catlyst driver updates help thing out for games like Crysis on crossfire
read in some website that crossfire setup requires more expert knowledge wen troubleshooting.......

Also require suggestion for a good psu in the range of 4k....
NO vx450 (heard enuf of that)...Wat about Antec EA 650.....
Might upgrade to a Corei7 920, 3 sticks ddr3 and two hdd some 120mm fans(cm690)...
wat is price of corsair vx550???

***NO KMD. Only Local Buy. NEW one***

get sapphire 4870 1GB. or even ASUS. It will fetch you around 18-19k.
Why i'm suggesting only sapphire coz Palit cards based on HD4800 series seems to have high death rates. Stay away from it.
Crossfire performnce will depend solely on driver support, and this is where ATi sucks..Having a single gpu is a peace of mind.
for that price, you can also get GTX 260 core 216, it's a bit faster than 4870 1GB particularly at lower resolutions..
Corsair VX550 or Antec EA650 are both good, you can't go wrong with either of them..:)

actually my budget was 16k+or- for the graphics:@
and 4.5k for the psu....

so have to choose palit...

and i'll planning to buy a 22" lcd but don't think i'll get FullHD ones..

also wud like to add the games i play:
COD 4&5
Crysis
farcry2
nfs undercover
splintercell
price of persia

and

GTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:ohyeah:

4870 1GB would generally be enough for a 22" 1680x1050 res monitor. Crossfire can be bothersome, solely depends on ATi driver support. Plus you will have increased power consumption, not to mention the heat that 2 reference 4850s will be putting out in your computer case.

If you were going for a 1080p monitor, then the 4850 xfire would have been a better buy than a single 4870. As it stands, a single 4870 will handle the demands of a regular 22 incher fairly well right now. And when games get more demanding, you can easily add another 4870 for really cheap and beat the cr@p out of a 4850 crossfire configuration. Just spend a little more and get a beefier PSU (like the 750W Corsair) and you're good to go.

ditch palit, get hold of MSI 4870 1GB @ 16k along with Corsair VX450 @ 4k or Antec EA650 @ 5.5k..:)

is palit that bad? i just ordered a palit 4850 from rahul...

i heard that the problem is only with the non reference designs from palit (like the sonic ones)

I've a Palit 4850 Sonic and so far have got no problems whatsoever with it. Planning to buy a 4870 Sonic again but are the problems really that frequent? Or was it just a bad batch? :@

i wud recommend a 4850X2 instead as theyve made New Drivers for it, n it Now performs VERY SMOOTH (Along with Being the one of the fastest cards on earth)!

but the cost is 24k and availability in chennai???

the 4870 palit 1 gb card is better ftw cause sometimes the 4850 cf does not scale the performance due to some games performance ;)

Would have recommended 4850x2, but the 1 GB version available here is not worth it. Its not bad, but not that good either.

I have done 4870+4850 CF, not that good, i noticed some micro stuttering. It may have been the drivers ( As I was using MSI release versions). But the heat was high(both reference coolers), now imagine running two reference 4850s in CF, that would be HOT.

But people are doing it and are happy with it.

My suggestion->Go for 4870 1GB + 1050p monitor. :cool2:

NOTE: For CoD4/5, dual GPUs help a lot. The frame rates double. @_@ Bizarre.

The Palit 4850 uses a dual slot cooler that works pretty well. Temps are at around the ~50c mark. If you are really keen on CF, maybe you should go for the 4870 now and then add another one later.

At 1680x1050 i think even a single 4850 will give you very good framerates for all the games you want to play!

Another additional point if you are picking a Palit card, they usually dont come with the crossfire bridge. So just check that out in advance!

i would preffer reference HD4850 + Rockfella's mod over palit sonic HD4850.

idles around 31-33c n load temps never cross 55c.. most of the times its below 45c for games like assassin's creed n fifa09

Erm.. you can do that? crossfire a 4850 with 4870?

Yes. but then both cards work at the slower cards speed, therefore he would have effectively had the 4870 working like a 4850 in the CF setup.

^ crossfire does not need both card to run at same speed . 4870 wont downclock , but 2 different cards cause frame rate drops sometimes , when i overclock one core of 4850x2 , frame rate is lower than both at same lower clocks .

Wrong. U can have 2 non-identical cards running at different speeds. What u're referring to is perhaps the first-gen CF.

But there's not a significant difference when the 4870 is paired with a 4850. Yields a bit more frames than when the 4850s're CF'ed. :)
