Wrong. U can have 2 non-identical cards running at different speeds. What u're referring to is perhaps the first-gen CF.

But there's not a significant difference when the 4870 is paired with a 4850. Yields a bit more frames than when the 4850s're CF'ed. :)

Thanks for clarifying, i read up more about it later and realized that i was a bit off :)

When 2 4850 512mb are on crossfire how much memory does the system detect effectively???
i mean is 2x4850 in cf equivalent to 4850x2 1gb????

What about the performance??
Does the 512 mb ram detected will hamper gaming at high resolution????
ie as resolution increases we need more memory right???
so a 1gb x2 will be better than 2 4850 512's in??? cf

No. The 4850X2 could be ideally a better choice due to bad driver support for CF'ed cards.

Yes for the second query and no for the first. Could u be a bit more specific with the 3rd query?

yes for first also :P , games like GTA 4 and crysis use over 800mb VRAM at max settings even at 1680x1050 :P , in 512mb crossfire , only 512mb will be available to games which will bottleneck at higher resolution .

yeah get GTX 260 216 ....dual setup is annoying no. of times in terms of driver issue , game optimization,etc....single powerful card is the way to go no hiccups not even in thoughts....
