This thread is so full of crap. People are just posting some random details.

I have an X2 4000+ with HD4850 1gb, I am able to play all games at full HD at medium to high details. The last game I played Dead space 2 worked without a glitch at settings nearly high. And nope my CPU is at stock too.. games are not so hardware locked like previously.

Ofcourse it wont play at everything high, you need to tweak settings in the games, but I have not yet to compromise on IQ on any games till now.
The hurried release of the 6 series makes the 4 series look 2 generations behind.Although there is definitely a significant difference, people don't seem to realize that it doesn't make them any less powerful and can easily handle 98% of the games in the marked without compromising on quality. You'd think that people would look up a review or two before making extra ordinary claims but then again...

Hey I really apologize to contributing to some of the crap, but I was really trying to help only..

Anyways, thank god you got the point when I said
and smartly chosen settings combination performance
to get a perfect balance of settings which enables to play at full HD too using the HD4850.

that Dx10 is unoptimized

dunno, kinda drew that conclusion when at DX11 release everyone was calling it DX10 done right and This is what DX10 was supposed to be wada wada... sorry if I'm wrong.

If you had read the OPs signature: he has a CX400. Am sure you are aware of that PSUs history and and stamina it has to power an LGA775 OC'ed+HD4850.

If and only IF he goes the OC way, he would need a better PSU, better cooling for the CPU -- that is if his motherboard permits it. Those chips easily hit an FSB wall and it is pointless. He needs to get it at or beyond 3.6Ghz minimal.
Why not? The E5200 is as frugal as they come. Agreed he needs a decent cooler. But he can easily OC the proccy with this current CX400 (It does provide 30A @ 12V).

Plus OP has a similar thread in other forum and that thread is going in different direction. This thread has no updates from the OP and is full of OT posts ;)

Why on earth would someone upgrade from a 19" to a 20" LCD? He should ideally try to get a 24" imo.

Grab a new 20" BenQ LED monitor, those displays are brilliant. And they offer 1600x900 resolution. Good gaming guranteed.

Also, you wont need to upgrade the whole CPU. HD5770s are getting cheaper by the day.

Interesting, if you get time could you let me know what FRAPS shows for Dx10. Thanks.

Will post the details this weekend, but if its playable for me I am sure it will be better then 25fps :)

A bit OT, but what exactly do you all mean by plaing a game in DX9 or DX10 path?
I understand that the game uses DX9 or DX10 effects but how to configure them? IS that a Generic windows setting or a in-game setting?

^^ If the game supports, and your OS, and your graphics card, and you have the necessary DX components installed(no more "and" promise!), then a game by default uses the highest possible API which will be DX10 if the conditions are met.

There are settings, like for Battlefield BC2, the config can be tweaked and manually set to DX9, DX10 or DX11(of course you can use the feature only if the conditions are met, again)

Umm, because we've been debating whether he'll be able to game at Full HD with HD4850 or not..!!!!!!!

Some games scale very good at non native resolutions, I play Crysis @ 1360x765 All High on T2200HD with 9600GT. I've tried to play NFS HP at same resolution and it looks terrible, but 9600GT can handle such games at native reso with slight tweaking. Surprisingly 1360x765 looks much better on my monitor than 1440x900/1600x900 and various others.

24" + 4850 + Tweaking > 19/20" High settings.

^^ True... but seriously, when I tried anything less than 1920x1080 on any game on my G2220HD, the screen is not completely occupied.

It's like widescreen on a widescreen, lol....

That's why all my games @ 1920x1080, and by gods grace, all at max.

In fact, with tweaking, some custom cfg's and all, I got CRYSIS to run at maximum with 4xEDGE AA with above 33fps on my athlon II X4 and HD5850. Beautiful game, story could have done a little better, but great concept.

EDIT:-

Got a Guy at TPU, running a Core i3 560 @ 4.6GHz and a 9800GT 512MB - CRYSIS 2

Resolution 1440x900, he's getting 22-25 fps for DX9 gamer settings.

That's pretty commendable. I guess I'll be able to do 1920x1080 DX9 with my card.

sorry guys for for coming to this thread,,I got some real good response from all of you. I finally decided to go for BenQ G2420 monitor;will buy the monitor by this weekend. so I am going to experience HD gaming soon and lets see how its going to handle with stock setting. I will definitely need some guidance from you guys while OCing my proccy.
In other forum, for the similar thread, someone suggested to go for an E8400 also - what do you say guys on this ??

My mobo is G31

even i ran ati 4850 with 1980x1080 at mafia with 4x aa but i got 23 fps but i disable it and i got aveg 43-45 fps boost without any issue

cause some of games like mafia and another cannot handle aa cause it might reduce fps rate and my cpu running 3.4 ghz stable

so u can run all games without AA that might work without any issue

^^ use the cfg hack which enables the glam of dx10 under dx9 mode, got huge boost in fps + better eye candy...
this cfg hack is for crysis right ?? I have windows 7 right now,,for dx 9 i need to have winxp ,may be a duel boot with win 7

^^^

lol, the cfg hack enables those eye candy under "HIGH" aka DX9 settings.

so you're getting "VERY HIGH" aka DX10 under the DX9 "HIGH" preset.

And you can use Win7, no need to go xp yaar
