I have a 4850 and am planning to upgrade by spending some 3k more.

I have a choice b/n the 5770 and the 4870

Getting a good deal on a 5770 XFX brand 1GB for around 7k.

Question is:

is XFX good or should I opt out and go for Palit, sapphire, evga, etc

Also, I hear the 5770 is better than the 4870 in terms of performance and runs cooler. Is this true (just the performance part)?

i suggest 5770 as it has less power consumption than 4870,also new drivers can also help in increasing performance, and also dx11 only if u have win7 installed

i wud go for 5770

go for sapphire 5770

think 7k is a good deal for at 5770 , performance wise its a bit up and down between then 4870 and the 5770 but overall the 5770 is better then the 4870 if you are getting a new one now.

7k for a 5770 ?
which dealer man? I want to buy one too...was waiting for mainstream cards of fermi...& I am tired :(

Totally confused now.... bit up and below? Does it mean better and worse

My friends card.... He is selling it for 8k...I would get a friend discount:) so I am asssuming 7k:)

If he does not give it to me in 7k then I will put a market thread for the 5770 @8k tonight:)

else I will have the card with me for 7k

Not worse... but it doesn't beat 4870 across the board. In some games it stays little behind 4870, in some it matches and in some it takes some lead over it.

Regardless...

1) If you're using Windows 7

2) Getting the card for 7k

3) Looking for cooler and more power efficient card

5770 fits the bill. Once again, it doesn't beat 4870 unanimously but it's pretty close and above in some, so for the overall feature sets and at that price it's obvious choice.

IMO:

Moving from HD4850 to HD4870 doesnt make much sense. While moving to HD5770 just gives little benifit of DX11 and lower power consumption.

Though spending 7k for a HD5770 is uber value for money. Spending 10k isnt.

If i were you, and had a 15k budget, i would try to get HD5850 after selling of my HD4850. If budget is strictly 10k and need for upgrading is vital, then HD4870 512MB/1Gb costing around 7-8k would be great.

Thanks Sato and iGo...Guess I can go with the 5770 then:)

But do u think XFX is good enogh?

@tech_savy: check ur PM

On 10.3beta ati 5770 is close to stock 4890.and overclocked it is close to 5850stock.head over to overclock.net for benches

what i was trying to convery earlier on ... and at 7k any HD 5770 is worth it across brands, apart from RMA process and delivery there is very little to choose from between brands.

Both are neck to neck. And depending on the game, the HD5770 and HD4870 beat each other. I would lean towards the HD5770 -- newer tech, lower power consumption. But do remember this is NOT a beefy card. You will not great performance at all maximum settings. Also it is not strong enough to do the Dx11 tessellation and maintain high numbers.

Thanks Gokufan.... 5770 being equal to the 4890...and on overclock being equal to the 5850..

That's quite a reason to get the 5770 then:)

Indeed an eyeopener that, me too thinking of getting a 5770 and then later go for CF. I hope its a better card than a GTX260 192SP :S
