i tried booting system with all rams, single ram, and same ram in different slots, hence came to conclusion that 1 slot may be faulty

Lets see what rma does ....also please suggest which is better rma directly to gigabyte or through techshop.in

Also do i need to pack the board and all the stuff and cables with the original box ?

Also do i need to wrap or pack the box, or give it as it is in original box ?

Before taking the board for RMA, try this.

msconfig -> boot -> Advanced boot options, then see if no of processors and maximum memory are checked. If they are, then uncheck them.

This has happened to me as well. Some fixes that u can also try :

Reset bios and update it to the latest version,

TRy playing with the ram timings and frequency.

reinstall the os or install another copy on a spare drive and see.

To check if your ram is faulty, run memtest86

Hellgate thanks for your pointers.

Bios reset done. Os installation done. Rams checked on different slots. Rams did not boot on one of the three ram slots meant for triple channel.

But I noticed slight bent pins on my board.

Check the snap below...

The actual section to check the pins is marked in white below (Zoom To notice the white section)

Also will the RMA of the board be entertained ??

It has nothing to do with the ram issues. Its just your slot has gone bad. I had many of such boards in past right from intel 775 which were very much prone to such bent pin issues due to multiple times removal of processor from its socket. Its only a cause of concern if your system refuses to boot after installing the proccy in the socket. I had gone through such nightmares but have corrected the same at home itself. Have helped many friends too.

The technique is to level/raise those bent pins to touch he gold contacts of the proccy and nothing else. It requires lot of patience & trial and go methods.

But do so only if your system isnt booting and not responding. Else needless doing will only do damage.

Dont confuse your ram issue with these pins.

You have already caught the culprit on a ram slot which isnt detecting the ram. Thats it! Take the board to the serve. ctr. and explain the issue straightway.

^ thanks ronit, but the thing that was getting me confused is the case with x58 boards, that seem to boot up fine even with pin issues.

But the effect is on memory. Now I am unsure if pin bent issue could actually cause a Ram slot to mis function.

Also note, the system does not boot with a single working ram placed in the second slot. But when placed in triple channel, is detected. Then system shows full 6gb, with 4 gb usable.

Will an RMA cause issues ??? I dont know what else to do, also tried raising the pin to make contact.

The more I mess with the Pins, more the risk. eventually the pins may land in my arms
<

Thats what m talking about. Dont mess with the pins. Let them look natural rather than playing with them which may look a mistake.

To add, not all pins are usefull on the proccy/mobo contacts.

I used a broken pin pentium 3 way back in 1998 which worked absolutely perfect.

Some time ago on toms-hardware or anandtech or overclocker i did read that broken pins are not always going to create problems unless its the critical pin which came out. And even after that people oc their systems without worrying but only after a through benchmark.

Here is the google search for the same

Update:

My socket did have few bent pins, which I managed to straighten with watery eyes. But the fault could have actually been the second ram slot used for triple channel configuration. I deduced the conclusion since the ram placed in only that slot did not boot the system

Today I took my board to Gigabyte Service center (Tardeo), where they do immediate replacement of faulty Boards.

Unfortunately they did not have my board in stock. They told me to call in 2-3 days.

The replacement are mostly refurbished boards.

Do the refurbished boards go through thorough checking ???

It depends. Heres how it works:

Now they'll take your board and repair the ram slot and give it as refurbished to other user. The only thing they will check is by installing a processor and a ram in that repaired slot and nothing else. Now when that user gets your mobo in his replacement, he may or may not encounter any issues.

Previously many users had very bad experience with rashi idiots. Even after replacements the mobo received would have issues like either ram slot not working or pci slot or onboard usb or hdmi. Though many say that now rashi has changed in service but personally it has been 3 yrs now i dealt with them last.

I used to call the service center and they used to tell me a motherboard was shipped from bangalore. but today when i called they told me my motherboard was repaired. And that too on my request, wherein I did not make any such request.

I will go on saturday and take my rams and cpu along to test (Is it a good idea) ??

Does the repaired board create issues later ??

And i told them it was faulty ram slot

What could they have repaired ?? and how

Update,

Gigabyte did not do any repairs , gave me same board back, just bios updated.

I reassembled pc, with less pressure on cpu , and it shows all 6gb of ram

Issue resolved on its own

IC....still make sure it was just the bios issue and not he slot.

try all kinds of ram you have in that slot. Boot the pc with just single ram in that slot and rest slots kept empty.
