Hi guys,

I wanted to upgrade to 8GB RAM from my G.Skill 2*4GB DDR3 1600Mhz CL7 RAM for a long time, but I couldnt find CL7 so I have decided to downgrade to CL9 RAM.

I will be selling the 4GB RAM kit and buying a new 8GB kit, My main purpose is Gaming and HD movies.

Which RAM should I buy ? G.Skill or Corsair ? Please suggest, budget Rs.4500.

You can get Corsair Vengeance 1600 1x4gb for 1650 in Computer Empire NP. Gskill sells for the same rate (cheaper on primeabgb.com) but it may have warranty issues while corsair service is excellent.

That's because they dealers are skeptical. When one of the memory manufacturer asked a distri, the response was that no1 will be interested in India. As of now, 1600MHz cl9 is the best bet- unless some dealer who doesn't lack brains manages to break such mentality by selling such kits in a reasonable price.

If your only usage is gaming and watching HD movies, you don't really need to upgrade.

And instead of selling that kit, just buy another 4 GB kit or a single stick of 4GB.

Um As I mentioned, I have CL7 RAM, and I dont think I will find it anywhere, buying CL7 is out of question.

I meant instead of selling your old kit and buying a new 8GB kit, just add 4gb to your existing kit. I guess you'll find only CL9 here.

Ya thats my pt, I dont think I can bundle and CL9 with CL7,,,

You should be able to run them provided you set the same frequency and timings for both kits.

Get Ripjaws 1600Mhz CL9 and I think it would be possible to run them at CL8 atleast. Your old kit can run at CL8.

If not stable, set both at CL9.

Are u sure about it ?

Cause from what I read running two different RAMs together leads to system instability...

It will run, in worst case it shows BSOD if set to default in BIOS, if BIOS sets the freq of your old Cl7 ram as default. In that case just set the timings manually and it ll work for sure. I myself is running G Skill 1100 DDR2 CL5 along with normal DDR2 800 CL6. It wont boot in if set to defaults, and i manually set the timings to 800 and the timings was set to auto and it detected as CL6. I also tried manually setting em at Cl6 and both works fine.

GSkill has lifetime warranty, and i suggest you keep them and get another pair of G Skill Ripjaws/Sniper 1600 CL9 kit. Get 4*2 GB for around 3.2k for a total of 8+4=12 GB 1600 CL8/9. That would be more than sufficient. :)

You even forgot how I changed the timings when I came to your home? :-o

Between, everyone is saying same what I said, don't sell these, instead add 8gb more to it.

Check with Prime and SMC. They should have the GSkill RipjawsX CL8 kits. I got mine from SMC. They are not much costlier than the CL9 kits either. These do 8-8-8-24-1T @ 1.5v comfortably.
