90K+ 4k 120Hz HDR Monitor Suggestions

I'm looking for a 4k monitor that I can use for gaming and content. Would prefer better HDR performance over refresh rates and response times, since I don't play competitive or multiplayer. 120 Hz is my sweet spot, going higher will not matter much to me.

The MSI MPG 321URX looks close to what I'm looking for, but I am a bit worried about OLED longevity, plus if there's a cheaper option I can get by giving up 240 Hz, I would prefer that.

I haven't kept in touch with latest models and prices.
One guy from forum bought MSI 4k 165Hz in 80s. This is the cheapest 4k oled that i have heard of yet.

There is much better value in 2k 360 ones. One msi model was going for 58k. Just a year back, 2k 360 was at 95k.
But for SP, i would 100% prefer 4k 32 and pay the premium as larger monitor is well worth it.

Also, TVs are supposed to have better hardware and cheaper prices. For content, its perfect but they are even larger.
If you can manage with 42+, then you can consider that.

Also higher refresh rates can also give less motion blur. So it can be useful for SP too, but its hard to run it at those rates.
See blurbusters website.

longevity - for content only, i think it should be fine. Perhaps if you have a game that you play for 100s of hours, then reduce/remove hud.
I work on it as well and take more precautions.
Black wallpaper, lowest brightness when working, reduce green and blue gain ( else white can be glaring against pitch black), dark mode, keep windows in random locations and not full screen,
hide task bar etc.

I absolutely love oled/hdr now, will never play on lcd again.
But i do use it in a dark room with no light shining directly on the monitor.
In a bright room, oleds might be less impressive, dunno. minileds are much brighter, but have other issues.

Even worst case usage only caused slight burn in for monitor unboxed, so hopefully this is a non issue if you take care of it.

This guys gives good tips on how to deal with HDR issues and options to get HDR in games that dont support it. Has been very useful for me and now i play every game with HDR.

He made a summary video recently.

I am using a 4k 32 LG IPS for work right now, and the size is perfect for my desk, hence my strong preference for a 32". I've never used a 2k monitor, but I assume there's a noticeable difference in clarity at this size?

I like the idea of using a TV, but I don't think I have the space for it right now. But just for my own education, are there any drawbacks to using a TV as a monitor?

Hiding taskbar is the one thing I'm very uncomfortable with doing. I extensively use 'Win + number' for navigation and I don't want to sacrifice it. Those blacks might still be worth the reduced life though.

Or maybe I just have to wait for micro-LED to mature to enjoy HDR without worries :pensive:

He got some burn in within 3 months by not hiding the task bar and using high brightness. It doesnt seem too severe, but its there.
This is for qdoleds, woleds (ex in LG C2) may be more resistant not sure. qdoleds are more colorful, have better color brightness than woleds.

My own view is that one has to change workflow to avoid risk else it might happen soon and you will regret.
Do shortcuts not work if task bar is hidden? By hidden, i mean that the taskbar becomes visible if you move your cursor to the bottom edge of the screen.
Anyway, on win 10, this is a bit of a pita. It doesnt work that well and i ended up using an ahk script to hide/show the taskbar. Cant understand how they can mess this up.
Works great on Linux/kde.

If you cant change, better go for minileds. There is samsung neo g7. And we have cheaper acer ones too. ( ~30k for 2k ~40-50k for 4k)

Dunno, when i played on 2k it was clear enough for me and 4k 32 should be sharper. Have not seen then side by side.
For oleds, text will be better on 4k32, lower ppi has some text fringing.
I also prefer 32 4k, even though its harder to run.

The taskbar shortcuts work but they're reliant on the icon position, so a bit hard to pull off with the hidden taskbar.

Thanks for all the info, although I remain as confused as ever. I think I will hold off on a new monitor until I move out of my current place. If I have enough space I could possibly get an oled tv and a mini LED monitor, that sounds like the best of both worlds.

I have msi 321upx 240hz . Awesome monitor but since your use case scenario is casual gaming and 120hz is your preferred refresh rate then I would highly recommend recommend buying oled tv because it would be cheaper and bigger as well . But do keep in mind go for the brand which offers burin in warranty .
