Just one question to all people who are in doubt here.

Would you risk your new Honda Civic on Diesel if you did not have any more cash ?

No, but is there a risk in the first place?? Why wouldn't there be a safety device on the motherboard also to prevent cpu, ram, gfx card etc if the PSU fails?

If the PSU fails, I believe there is still a safety device on the mobo to protect the components on it from unduly high currents. How can these components die if the PSU fails?

There is none. And it is not high currents, which cause component damage. Rippled power, fluctuation in current, not providing enough amps during load. These all stress the parts, which result in meltdown and/or burn out. Both are irreversible.

and are you waiting to see when his rig is gonna RIP....? better safe than sorry mate. ;)

on the other hand i totally agree with Amien... a psu is like a heart for the compuper.. a cheap one can most probably give it a heart attack! (my 2 sticks of RAM's are RIP-ing cause of my "Priya PSU which was rated at 600w, 22A... :| )

Read the first post again. I simply answered to his question. I had told my friend that its not safe to do so.

The thread started clearly says he has no $$ for a PSU, so i think he is willing to take the risk.

People at TE have "run" a 3870X2 on a real power 460W PSU, and your making fun of me for this ... :D
