Today Windows took long time to boot. I checked the event manager and found the following error in System Log.

The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block.

These appeared today only. The HDD is WD7500AACS is 6 months old. PSU is Corsair Vx450. What should I do???

Use HDTach or HDTune and check for bad sectors.. which is what your HDD has. Then backup as much data as possible, and RMA it.

If i am not mistaken HD Tach is only a benchmarker , doesnt check for bad sectors , you will have to use HD Tune

No need for a RMA now, the same thing happened to my WD once, and it was cured just by CHANGING THE SATA CABLE, yes, the el cheapo cables that most of use give away very soon, me and my friends have actually suffered from as much as 5 broken SATA cables, just replace it and it might be O.K, WD is not seagate, and the chances of it dying all of a sudden are slim, WD drives are slow goers, a few bad blocks now and they increase with time, but not sudden BOOM like seagate.

GET a new SATA cable.

BTW- When my cable died I also got the same message.

Used HD Tune. It found some bad sectors. Then I used WD Lifegaurd diagnostics. It also found some bad sectors but was able to 'repair' them (I assume it marked them bad).

No more problems for last couple of days. My question here is - Is it still required to RMA this drive?

Yes, in WD drives those bad sectors will increase over time, back up your data, RMA it.

Ur 6 months WD gone Bad, mine Brand New WD 1 TB 32mb Green HDD gone bad on purchase with bad sectors,Dont RMA if absolutely dont feel the necesity.MY HDD gone for WDRMA is lying there for last 15 days + & as per WD they r out of stock & they r Not even replacing the same with a bigger capacity drive also. The pic seems pretty grim for me..highly ineffiecient RMA of WD i say!

Same delayed status for my 640gig AAKS :|. Its been two weeks and I still haven't received the replacement drive. No more WD for me.

Hi I got my 320 gb drive checked today by HD tune and it found about 7 blocks that were bad. The drive seems to be working fine but sometimes things take an age to load.

Will I get an RMA by telling them that there are bad sectors ?

^^ I think, WD is Really VERY Thrifty on RMA ( i say that only as per my own personal experience till now) & replacing Drives is painstakingly slow. They Dont have their very latest popular series desktop HDD's in stock, now what do that pic represent..if NOT absolutely necessary,DOnt DO a RMA from WD or BEst Dont Buy a WD at all!...Seagate Accel is lightyears ahead in this RMA dept & very generous too!..i think, they understand the values of satisfied customer!

Yes, but isnt the warranty period difference between them different as well? So its your call which one you want to go for :)

@Zloyl: Yes, telling them that the HDD has bad sectors is enough to get it RMAed :)
