The sandforce 2000 series chip based ssds like the mushkin are also pretty decent.

This is a nice ssd, but it's suddenly quite pricey.

The M4 has a theoretical slower write speed but it doesn't really matter much in real world usage since you wouldn't be using an ssd for huge transfers. Pretty decent one actually.

If you have a sandy bridge mobo chipset, you may wanna stay away from the sf-2000s because even though it's not 100% confirmed, they seem to have the most incompatibility issues.

Since, I am getting this SSD from Amazon.com, What can I keep for warranty claim? A print out of Amazon invoice is enough? since, this SSD comes with 3 year USA warranty.

I saw that SSD brackets for Desktop PC are available for Rs250 or so. is it really needed? Can I simply screw on one side to the HDD slot in the Cabinet?

How will you avail the warranty? You will have to ship it back to America Sire, keep the invoice and register the product on Crucial's site if they allow you to do so.

It will be better if you get the bracket as the screws cannot give you a stable hold, so if you are moving around the cabinet, the SSD screw threads just might break and the SSD will fall, causing physical damage and that will not be covered under warranty.

There's really no need to screw down an ssd in a typical pc. Since it has no moving parts, just keep it in a place where the cables reach neatly and that's it. If you do move the pc around frequently just make sure it cant fall on something else, like the mobo or hdds or a fan. My vertex3 came with a bracket but i haven't used it yet. no i'm not selling it...

deltapage shows a SSD/HDD bracket for Rs250. I will get if it is available in Cochin.

@ALPHA17: A relative is buying SSD for Me . if I can send the SSD through anyone travelling to USA, I can avail warranty.

God Forbid no such thing happen.

I will register SSD with Crucial.com website.Hope I can do it sitting in India with a BSNL IP :/

meanwhile, I was going through the review of plextor m3 SSD @ anandtech. it seems better than crucial m4 yet expensive. I will stick with Crucial M4 anyways.

Thanks for all the replies.

Ahhh... you are welcome Sire.

Just one thing, if you want to tag anyone in posts on TE, place a hash in front of their ID, e.g. #[member='cool_cat']. Cheerio!!

I too have set my mind on the Crucial M4 256 gigs SSD. Will be getting one from Amazon.com itself, they have a deal going on for $199 with free shipping.

On a side note, I'd like to ask that does amazon accept indian debit cards or not?

#dOm1naTOr is this ssd good enough for our x53ta?

Update: If I buy a Intel 330-series(sandforce) 120GB SSD for $128, Can I avail International Warranty(in India)? new SSD from Intel with 3 year warranty(not 5 yrs like 320 or 520 series). please advice.

If I pay a lil extra(For intel), and get Indian warranty ..peace of Mind..I guess?

Yes I think so that will be possible and will be a big relief considering the amount of money you are pouring into this upgrade.

Intel 330 series uses Sandforce SF-2281 controller- same one as in Cherryville 520 series. so, I hope reliability is Up ↑↑↑

dayumn! The 120GB SSD was selling at $128 Amazon and now increased to $145! can we expect a price revision(reduction) in a week's time? :?:

I am waiting for 330 series Intel 120GB SSD drive price to come down(a month). However, It has increased to $141 now.
What I wanted to know is, Amazon is offering 330 series 180GB SSD for $200 with a Post-purchase rebate of $60 from Intel. this effectively makes price to $140. so, in the price of 120GB($141), I can get a 180GB drive at $140GB. is this that straightforward?

Intel will mail $60 rebate as a "Visa Prepaid Card" within 4-6 weeks as per this page:
http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/00/00/22/71/36/79/2271367990._V148446380_.pdf
This offer is Valid till 29/5/2012 only for USA Customers.
Anyone have experience with mail-in rebate cards post purchase? is this "Visa prepaid card" like a debit card? @varkey, #varkey

^ Its only for US customers, so unless you have a relative in the US, I don't think you will be able to get the rebate. The process is not really guaranteed for US customers too!

Don't buy anything with rebates.
Regarding international warranty. Only intel retail ssd has warranty all over world. Crucial says you have to ship it to their European office as india comes under European cover.
