gfx: dedicated gfx if within budget, onboard is fine otherwise... need 1080p playback and hdmi out
warrant: very imp, she needs global warranty (applicable in india)
backlit keyboard?
os: win 7 home/prof
dvd supermulti

im a laptop noob so i dono which brand etc to pick

+1 for the Dell - the warranty can be transferred when she is planning to head back to India.

Get the Inspiron 15R configured with an HD5470 1GB for 100USD more and that totals to 649 USD shipped with a 120USD discount. :)

The Intel IGP will not be able to handle 1080p thus the upgrade helps.
