Someone bought a 780G board based on my advice; and he's having some issues with it :ashamed:

Failing memtest, windows crashing when playing games etc. He's already had the RAM changed under warranty, but still no luck.

His is a rev 1.0 gigabyte board. He says the northbridge is damn hot to touch .

What to do besides the bunnyboi(fan + zipties) fix ?

are the rev 1.1's here in india yet ?

well here's another bunnyboi fix. get a P3 HSF, drill 2 holes, mount using a pair of nuts and bolts. simble :P

have gone through many online reviews and customer reviews... all gigabyte 780G have heating prob(arnd 80 degrees).. Prob seems to be reduced in ver 1.1 (reduced by 5-6 degrees)..

any idea guys... i also plan to buy gigabyte mobo... not heard of the overheating issue in any of the reviews i checked out..

im using the rev 1.0 version...touchwood havent faced any program lockups or crashes yet..pc is on 24x7.

But yea the northbridge does get a bit hot....

I'm planning to get this board recently...how concerning are these heating up issues? Also is the new revision yet here in India?

Sunny that violates warranty doesnt it?

I dont think he might be willing to go to that extent to mod it. And then there would be the warranty issues.

It aint hard to put the old heatsink back :| plus ppl can never know

I have the gigabyte rev1.0 mobo .... running ok and very stable for more than 4 months now ....

No issues what so ever ...... it gets heated but no stability issues as such :cool2:

Try ZOTAC GeForce 8200 Mobo ....

And what do u propose to do with the existing mobo....:bleh: ....

use as a paperweight.....

how abt getting a Northbridge cooler.... cooler from a PIII should also work fine....
Also maybe he could open the existing cooler....clean it...apply mx2 and have a fan blowing directly on it....

Nice tip .I did same some time ago for NB and SB both.Due to space limitation had to cut HS in shape for SB.There is nothing harm to warranty by this as we are not drilling holes in MB:rofl: Holes supposed to be drill in P3/GPU HS or what ever you have in alignment with MB holes.I was also planning to get 780G board but no to this heat oven now:no:

780G heat is nothing compared to what the NF730a / GF 8x00 chipsets produce :P

Just have the good ventilation in the case. That should be enough. The NB heatsink does get hot, its not an issue as such.

To rule out this issue, get a 80mm fan, open the cabby, hold the fan over the nb heatsink, and see if the errors go away. If they do, then just try replacing the TIM of the northbridge. If it does not go away, it means problem is somewhere else and not due to heating of NB.

hmm had seen some reviews which show gigabyte rev v1.0 was a powerhogg... gigas implementation is diff or guess some thing related power rails is screved in rev 1

no one owns rev1.1 ?

40 mm fan /old GFX fan should help
