Graphic Cards 8600gt 512mb(gddr2) vs. 256mb (gddr3)

Hey people i am going to buy an 8600 gt for my cousin please suggest which one to go for the 8600 gt 512mb gddr2 or 256mb with gddr3 . My cousin has given his 10th grade wxams and is having holidays he plays game on his computer the whole day. He wants to play games like Crysis, Call of duty 4 and other high definataion games so please suggest?
 
^+1 .. 8600 has a 128bit bus so it wont be able to effectively utilise the 512mb VRAM ... so 256ddr3 will be better as it would be faster ..
 
You can check out benchmark result at tomshardware.com .

The results clearly shows that the 256 MB ver out-performs the 512 MB ver in "most" games.
I have the 8600 GT 256 MB card , and I am able to play Crysis at 1024*768 res with AA .:hap2:

with AA (so assume you are using at least high settings) :S :S
 
^^^^the 512mb gddr3 version should help with setting extra texture settings in game but since the 8600gt core is not that powerful you will still find it struggling at settings which use that much frame buffer,but an improvement from the 256mb card nevertheless.
 
The 8600GT 256MB GDDR3 is the one you should buy. The prices have fallen quite a lot and it is no slouch in performance. The card meets the minimum requirements of the games mentioned above. Make sure that the rest of the system components do.
