Graphic Cards 8800 POLL, when buying

^^Its the same scene even in 1920x1200.... just check the reviews. Assuming you buy a high end card, you'd expect a person to atleast have a 24" or higher screen. To me the 2560x1600 scores matter a lot cos thats the resolution I expect it to perform when I get my next video upgrade.

Well here's proof of my statement... all tests from AT review @2560x1600

FEAR: GTS 17fps, XTX 24fps
B&W 2: GTS 21fps, XTX 21.3fps
Oblivion: GTS 17.8fps, XTX 11.8fps (Big win for GTS)
BF2: GTS 59.5fps, XTX 59.9fps
Prey: GTS 35.1fps, XTX 30.8fps
HL2 Ep1: GTS 50.5fps, XTX 46.2fps

Some More Nos from firingsquad at the same resolution

Dark Messiah: GTS 10.8fps, XTX 30.1fps (Shocker!!!)
BF2142 (1920x1200): GTS 51.1fps, XTX 46.3fps
Quake4: GTS 36.5fps, XTX 29fps
COD2: GTS 23.5fps, XTX 23.2fps
FC HDR: GTS 36.4fps, XTX 30fps
Need more proof? :P. GTS is not worth it atleast for DX9 performance.
dint even bother to see the benchs at that res. y, cause it really doesnt matter does it. what matter is 1600res & 1900res performance where the gts remains 20 - 40% faster in dx9 games.

but the fact still remains that anyone would prefer a ps3 to it :)

still I agree 1900xtx to 8800gts not necesary now with no directx10 games around...but then we cant ignore the perf...

ofcourse for 30" dell u need better than a GTS to upgrade.
I was more interested in 1920x1200 perfomance...Infact thats the only one I looked at with interest.

If you are gearing up for DX10 and want to buy a card *now*, it's gotta be the G80 GTS or GTX depending on your budget... if you think you'll be playing DX9 games for another year or two, get the X1950XTX or 8800GTX depending on your budget :P If you can wait a while, wait for R600 and the G80 refresh and then pick up the winner :)

Fanboys of ATi and nVIDIA, I'm sure you know what to do lol :D

The end story is, anyone having x1900 series can surely wait for R600. I think thats exactly what chaos wanted to say. there is no point in investing $500 blind when you have card more than capable of handling anything out there without testing the competition.

Waiting till Jan wont hurt much.

The main thing is these are 1st gen DX10 cards. A solid DX10 card will last you for quiet a while. See how much life people got out of solid cards like 9700/9800 series. It lasted good 3-4 years when it started to suck...

Thats why when there is totally new thing coming out its not a bad idea to check all your options before jumping in.

A sound investment will take you good distance.

^^See how close the GTS and XTX are in that "review" with AA enabled :P. If you can't see it, you need to visit the opthalmologist.

Silly poll really...right now a purchase would give bragging rights for sure, which may be cool online and no where else.

A wait is in order... I remember a lot of guys buying 7800GTXs when they launched (no names here :P). I was one who waited knowing better things were in the pipeline...
Seems the wait was worth it then, and the G71 kicked G70s a$$ by more than 15% in some cases...I think I'll do the same thing now...
agree with funky...and when you have two R580s then the need to burn 500US diminishes further :P

G80 will not need a refresh if AMD flunks...so all eyes on AMD/ATI...
Seriously would love to see R600 beat 8800GTX by 20%...
They kn what they r up against n have had more time looking at directx10.

tsk tsk..initial R600 cards are bigger than 8800GTX cards...Now they r redisgning the board to shorten it...

Little is known about R600 at present, and the rumors related to the re-design could be rumors and nothing more. However, R600 is bound to better first-gen G80, and it's possible that nVIDIA held back on a power-packed G80 keeping that in mind. We'll know more in the coming months leading up to Crysis :)
