Which one will give better performance on the latest games on a 22" lcd moniter.

if you can get the 640mb version of gts for <10k i would say get that,9600gt between the options you gave.

The ECS is passively cooled, and is not available locally. It may not be important, but that cooler alone is worth $25. Able to keep the 9600GT within reasonable temperatures with minimal airflow and zero noise. I'm getting two of them myself for SLI gaming, to be put in a nice cabby with some fans. Hopefully they won't run as hot as my current card.

I was running some old games at 1680x using my GTS 640, I suspect that for maximum performance with new games at that resolution you'd actually need a GTS 512 or at least a well-overclocked G92GT. Oblivion ran smooth enough but had a few slowdowns in battle scenes with my card, I doubt the GTS320 would perform at all, and a single 9600GT whereas a little better than my card, would not provide absolute smooth gameplay either.

My installed Oblivion uses a very large texture mod, various visual mods, all eye candy enabled and HDR + AA simultaneously so it's quite a system killer. The GTS 640 would give average 25fps, with peaks of 60fps indoor and 45-50 outdoor. Got very choppy in battle though.

Performance depends on "How-much" and also depends on what game.

If u are taking of crysis at 22" then u cant have all the eye candy on. but if u are taking about COD4 9600GT would do just great, and it'll hold your fort for atleast an another year.

as far as the 8800gts (320 and 640) is concerned , dont go for it unless someone is giving it to u at throw away price, even then try to stay away. just not worth it.

go with the 9600gt and u'll be fine for quite some time. :)

I beg to differ......I completed Crysis demo thrice @ 1024X762 ...all ultra high settings except for post-processing @ medium..and no AA...on my OC'd 8600GT 256MB ...the game was very much playable...fps is not as important as playability.
So theoretically a 9600GT should be able to play games at 1680 res.

And ppl ...stop buying a card with Crysis in mind...cause all that Gloss isn't good enuf to keep u hooked on to d game for long.
COD4 ROXX !! small game...nice gfx..excelent gameplay.

Legit Reviews - EVGA, Palit and XFX GeForce 9600 GT Video Card Review - Crysis

u can clearly see at 1280*1024 at high its only giving 25-28 and u can ask anyone framerate = smooth gameplay. they are proportional.

Its not about Crysis (and i didnt like cod4 much anyway) its about the future games from henceforth say Farcry 2 or UT 2008/9 and Cry Engine based games, so they would need something heavy and at 1680 res u def need a good GFX compared to 1024x768.
