CPU/Mobo 975 vs 965

None of these two. Both are discontinued chipsets and have been replaced by P35 and X38 chipsets. X38 is to be replaced by X48 in a matter of few weeks.

If you dont want a crossfire setup, P35 is good enough for now.

I dun think any of the X48 chipsets support DDR2 memory... I doubt X38 as well..

Nah dont worry, there will be DDR2 boards on X48.
Asus has already announced Rampage Formula ROG series board with X48 and DDR2.

We managed 4.7ghz with a E8400 on a 1 1/2 year old p5b dlx :P P965 chipset...

I dont think even newer 680i mobos can do this :rofl:
